When I applied as a freshman I chose undecided humanities because I was thinking about taking a relatively easy major while taking Pre-Med courses simultaneously. However, now I think that it won’t necessarily be easy as I am those people who just plain old suck at history or liberal arts type things and it would be a better decision on my behalf to switch to a science major because the pre - med courses will be included in my major requirements. So overall I really want to know how difficult it will be to switch.?

Thanks

My daughter went to UCD as “undecided” and was told she could declare a major anytime after the first quarter, no problem. She is going from undeclared to animal science.

If you’re switching into a non impacted major, then no problem. But, you can’t switch into an impacted major. I don’t know what specific majors are impacted at UCD but I’m guessing you’ll find them on their website.

it’s pretty easy to switch, as long as you keep your undergrad GPA up for non-impacted majors. i was undeclared before switching into my current major.

idk about impacted; i haven’t had any friends try to switch in and out of impacted majors.

also, you might want to stick to your liberal arts major. you do realize there’s a writing portion on the MCATs, and that’s what makes/breaks the score, right? ;]

It’s not too hard to switch majors. But, yeah, if it’s impacted it is more work and will take longer. Most impacted majors have a list of 6 or 7 classes you have to take before declaring, and the GPA that you must maintain in them. If you take all those classes and get high enough grades, then they will let you in.

sutoroberrii, the writing portion of the MCAT is usually neglected; however, I think that by taking two or so English courses in college I will be adequately prepared for the writing section. I guess it may take me two years to switch as noinspiration said because of science majors being highly impacted. If anyone knows something for sure it would be great to know!
