Applied ED and consumed by the waiting game?

If my memory serves me, I believe they extended the deadline two years ago.

It would make sense that any school would have a record number of applicants since this year, like last year, is part of the the "baby boomer's children's" generation.

:)

It just seems like the extension would only affect a VERY small percentage of Early Decision applicants, those applicants who were very close to finishing their applications

I don't think it would encourage "new" applicants, because if they hadn't decided to apply ED, I don't think four days would be enough time for them to change their mind and compile an application.

I'm just curious for the reason, and I wish I would have known so I could have tweaked with my essays a bit more haha.

i was at uva on saturday and i was talking to one of the deans. she told me they usually receive 2100-2200 early applications, this year, they recieved 2800

so...is that good or bad?

i would think that is kind of bad, because I doubt they increase the number they will accept under early decision. Just think, if they have that many for early decision, imagine how many they will have for regular decision. How many total(ED and RD) are accepted each year anyway? Isn't it like 3500 or something. Wow, I'm officially depressed. lol!

According to UVA's website they offered 6,023 people admission last year. I couldn't find anything about how many people they offered admissio early to though.

Well everyone offered admission ED was bound to attend. I think that number is somewhere between 800-1000.

This is a quote from Dean J from the old thread regarding the decision to end ED at UVA:

"I believe I posted the numbers earlier in this thread. Of the 947 students admitted during the ED round last year, 20 applied for aid. Only one met the low income standard set by the AccessUVA program, which gives students a full scholarship."

Nice job BG

Using the numbers 2200 and 2800 with the number 950 (I can't imagine them taking any more than this after the decision to eliminate ED next year) you get 43 and 34 percent admit rates respectively. This sucks if true

I hope they didn't get too many more applicants....

There is an update on the application blog regarding the notification. Nothing new, just kindly telling us, the impatient ones, once again that the official date is Dec. 1st. I think what we need is a little hint or sign that it might be earlier. Anything would be good right now.

just want to know what kind of stats i'm up against :) what are everyone's stats?

1231, It's tempting, but it's not going to make you feel any better to see people's stats

I agree with 20^

Anyways if we do have to wait until December 1, it's about 11 days off. I bet they get it done a day or too before.

So today's the first day we could possibly see decisions....nothing on Dean J's blog, but I'll check at 5 anyways!

Haha, laxguy, I have been checking her blog and the forum here throughout the day. It is 5:15 now and nothing. Looks like Monday is the next possible one.

no chance friday? :(

Come on now, Thanksgiving is a holiday weekend.

I'm betting on Tuesday.

We have never posted decisions this early.

The notification date is December 1st.

Nope.

RELAX. Eat some turkey. Enjoy spending time with the fam. Resist the urge to check those status pages for now.

if only it was that easy...

9 more days. itll seem like a lot longer. but i'll take 9 days over having to wait until april 1st like the kids next year will have to do. if anybody hears anything let me know. but for now, i'm just gonna try to avoid the status check page. just makes me more anxious anyway.

I think what's misleading is how early thanksgiving is this year. I know for a fact that someone who is a second year now found out the day before Thanksgiving....I'm betting turkey day came late that year, so late that the following monday was past the first of dec.

But Dean J is right. Enough over analyzing.
