I changed the settings at 5 PM last year, but we got complaints about it from counselors saying students were still at school (for practices or meetings) and were seeing their decisions in front of their friends, which we want to avoid. We talked about pushing the time back a few hours, but it's always going to be a bad time for someone because of time zones.

We'll make a decision tomorrow and I'll let you all know. What do you think is better: before dinner or after? I imagine everyone will say before...

I'm just afraid about how its going to be delivered...I mean, how do they tell you whether or not your "accepted" or "rejected"..oh goodness

I say the old regular time at 5PM, even though it wouldn't matter to me as I won't be able to check it until like 11PM or later Friday. I believe it's up to the student to decide for him or herself to check.

I say as soon as possible, so before dinner. I know I'll go look without my friends but I also only have to wait until 2 because of the time zones. It's the student's responsibility to go check when they feel comfortable. But I see where the admissions office is coming from in wanting to wait.

As for cavalier302's question, Dean J's blog has a post about letters. They will all be in skinny letters, acceptances and denials. They want to get the actual letter out ASAP without having to worry about fancy packages and all. All that will come later if you are accepted.

As I recall, my UVA acceptance package (in the spring) was fat, although I'd received Echols notification about two weeks prior and a "likely" letter about a month before that. From what I hear, though, all ED notifications are in thin envelopes. The other info that comes in an acceptance package isn't so crucial for ED people, I suppose.

How about posting the decisions at like 6am so we all find out before school?

Okay, I'm pushing it a bit. Just kidding: )

I prefer sooner too. It's like everyone else seems to be saying, people are going to check it when and where they want to. And even if they did wait until 7pm EST, wouldn't it still be like 4pm on the West Coast? And wouldn't practice/other activities probably still be going on? Either way, as long as we find out on Friday I will be happy: ).

So I just logged on and saw this thread exploded by like 4 pages. I freaked out. Thought somehow decisions came out without me knowing. Not cool.

thomas jefferson high school for science and technology...they are all pretty much shoe-ins for uva...now if it was only like that for langleyyyyy

Dude, I wish I could believe that my application was a "shoe-in" just because I'm from TJ. I honestly have no idea where I'm applying next if I don't get into UVA.

I look at myself and see so many flaws. Perfectionist? Maybe, but I just cringe at my naive behavior towards school freshman year (3.7ish gpa) and see so many areas I could've improved myself academically and physically.

In other words, I used to be a very childish kid.
