Hi! I'm currently working on my Applied Math degree at a UC (hopefully/planning an econ minor). I was wondering what jobs can I get? I've looked into actuarial sciences and I'm aware of teaching, but what more is there?
I look up things and people talk about companies hiring applied math majors to calculate this and that, or work on wallstreet or nasa, etc etc. But HOW do I actually get there? Do I go to grad school for something or apply straight after undergrad? Do I take tests and do certain types of internships?
Any help is greatly appreciated thank you so much :)

My daughter just graduated with a degree in Applied Math, but her minor is physics. She is looking at lots of different jobs. A place to start is by joining SIAM, which is an AM association and is free to students. It has a job board, which will give you some ideas of jobs.

With Econ, you might get a job in a think tank. You might also look at analyst jobs and some of the training programs offered by investment firms like Fidelity or T. Rowe Price. The government used to be promising for jobs, but right now, it is stagnant as are government contractor jobs.

You might try to get a government internships where you can get your security clearance, which will also broaden you job prospects. Lots of jobs want some computer experience, so if you can pick up some basic programming classes, that will also make you more employable.

Good luck.
