Hello I currently attend Fresno Pacific University and am majoring in Applied Mathematics really im just wondering am I going to have any career choices when im done with college. I feel like im earning a degree that is not going to get me a job and it is kind of frustrating im not sure what to do. Feedback is appreciated, thank you.

Well, how good is your university? I’ve never heard of it. To be honest, it really depends on you. As for me, having a school with strong connections to industry is what’s going to help me get a job in the end.

You should have researched this beforehand, though. It is a lucrative major if you do well because the major is versatile. You’re supposed to supplement it with a different interest. Applied math majors usually supplement with physics, computer science, economics, or statistics. I chose to minor in physics and have plans to attend law school to become a patent lawyer. Honestly, these days, any job is tough to get and you have many competitors gunning for the same job with similar credentials straight out of undergrad. I’d either major or minor with Computer Science to increase job opportunities.

You might want to consider graduate school or some type of professional school in the future. If you’re really concerned about getting a job, you might want to switch to engineering. Then again, employers will look at what school you attended and judge you accordingly. It’s also much more difficult to come out with a GPA that’s not sub-3.0.
