First question is what are the average stats for Smith direct admit as a Freshman-out of state
Then, what happens if you don’t meet those qualifications, do they reject or admit to another program/undecided?
Thanks for the insight and good luck everyone!
If you aren’t directly admitted to the Smith school of Business, you can still be admitted to the University, you’ll just be placed in Letters and Sciences, which is basically the major for undecided students. You’ll then have a chance to internally transfer into the Smith school after you matriculate. There’s a thread about that process/its relative difficulty here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1321641-how-difficult-is-it-to-internally-transfer-into-smith-school-of-business.html
Not sure what the average SAT/GPA is for the Smith school, but I did find this profile about it online. I didn’t come directly from UMDCP so take it with a grain of salt. In my (limited) opinion, the numbers posted seem pretty accurate: http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/undergraduate_mba_profiles/maryland.html
83% of direct admit students have high school unweighted GPA over 3.75, and the 75th percentile for SAT CR&M composite is a 1410.
I think out of state status would have more sway on whether or not you’re admitted to the University at all, rather than a specific school within UMD. If you’re stats are in range I think you’d have a good chance, though it does depend on the state. UMD recives a lot of OOS apps from New Jersey and Virginia, so I’d say students from those states are at bit more of a disadvantage than those from a state that would diversify UMD’s OOS student population, like Texas or New Mexico.
