I am planning to attend university in the USA. I'd like to apply to some of the Ivy League universities. However, I thought about attending a community college for one year before applying to get used to the education system and improve my English further to raise my changes of getting admitted. Could I still apply as a freshmen even if I qualified as a transfer student?

Most universities (and certainly the Ivies) would not allow you to apply as a freshman after you’ve been a full-time college student for a year.

Thank you.

They won’t know. I know of at least 4 internationals students who had 1-2 years of college (yes, an actual university) in their country, and started as freshmen here.

@MyHipie: If the OP goes to community college in the US, the school he goes to afterward can find out that he attended the cc through the National Student Clearinghouse. I wouldn’t recommend that course of action, as it could cost you your degree.

@TitoMorito: My bad. I misread that part. I thought the OP was asking about going to CC in his/her home country. In that case, yes, you can’t really apply as a freshman.
