Apply for FA Now or After Acceptance??

Hey guys,

I've applied to PENN, Stanford, Yale, Cornell etc.

I'm recieving mails from those colleges to apply for FA.

But I am aware that chances to those colleges are really slim(and unpredictable).

So I thought it would be a waste of time to apply for FA.

I was thinking that I will apply for FA AFTER I get accepted(that is, if I do get accepted).

Do you guys think it will be alright? I know that P, S, Y, and C all have very generous Financial Aid packages...and some are need-blind.

I really need FA...and after getting accepted in mid May, do you guys think I can still apply and recieve FA(without any disadvantage compared to those who applied for FA now)?

i think you should probably apply before the admissions decision. I know at a lot of schools if you don't apply by the deadline that you are not garaunteed that they will meet 100% of your need. you'll get whatever funds happen to be left over...
definitely apply. Besides, you're probably getting financial aid at the school you're currently attending which means you've already filled out the FAFSA and maybe the PROFILE. all you need to do is add those schools to those forms and send them your tax returns..

I haven't applied for FA and never received emails telling me to do so. Why? Just curious.

yeah you should apply ASAP. how bout you post your stats, and we'll tell you if it might not be worth it to apply for FA?

Not all schools will remind you to apply for FA. You need to look up the deadline and have everything in by that date to ensure you'll receive as much aid as possible.

The longer you wait, the less aid there is to distribute.

In addition, the PROFILE, which I believe most of these schools require, takes a while to complete, hence, I would begin this process sooner rather than later. Most schools have deadlines, you don't really want to go past those dates.

Transfer admissions are unpredictable, and you might possibly get in to some, one, a few, or all, of the schools you mentioned; you wouldn't want to waste all the time and effort you have put into transferring, to end up not being able to attend due to financial concerns! :)

thanks for all your replies. Tanya922, thank you especially =) I will be submitting it in the next few days. Thx guys =)

I'm pretty sure you already missed the deadline.

No problem...

Burgler, I was trying to stay on the optimistic, positive side regarding the dates, lol. ;)

Chances are if you had applied before deadlines you would have received funds, I don't mean to be a jerk or not optomistic, but if you would have been on top of things the chances of receiving aid would have been much greater.

Lol. Penn's deadline for Transfers is 04-15. I'm sure she has plenty of time ofr the others...

Oh ok, I was thinking March, well as long as you apply for it before deadlines you shoudln't have a problem so hurry and you'll be just fine!

If you absolutely need financial aid, absolutely apply asap.
