So I applied early decision to Penn and completely forgot to submit financial aid forms. Now I'm way past the deadline to submit that stuff. Am I pretty much screwed.

Bump

yes

Thanks

I don’t think so. My D was accepted regular admit last year, and THEN notified that we had FA info outstanding. Send it in!

Thank you so much, but I haven’t sent anything in. The only thing I did was checked off that I was going to apply for need-based financial aid but I’ve literally done nothing else

For financial aid, this would only be a problem if you applied regular decision. It only matters to submit your financial aid forms by the deadline. Nov3 if you wanted your Financial Aid forms along with an acceptance letter if accepted. The later you turn in your financial aid forms, the later you know about the amount of money you get. That’s all! Of course, if you get in you should definitely said in those financial aid forms right away.
Don’t worry, I haven’t sent in any financial aid forms yet either. lolol I don’t and to do them cause if I don’t get in it would have been a waste of time. Oh wells xD

^ I realized that I had a few typos and may not have been that clear. Turning in the FA by Nov 3 only means that in your ED acceptance letter, you will also learn the amount of FA you will be given. Financial aid is looked at separately from your actual application, so not turning it in yet will not impact whether you get accepted/rejected.

It is NOT a problem. I know people who have contacted the FA office and asked if it’s okay to submit late, and they did say it was OK.

Holy ****. Thanks so much. I was so concerned

The decision comes out the 15th. Can I send in my aid stuff afterwards.

For ED, it could be a problem. You could get accepted and have to make the commitment to send enroll payment and forms, before you get your financial aid package. Then you won’t know whether you can afford the school before making the decision. Because it’s your fault that the aid package is not put together–they could not possibly do so since you sent no info, the school might not want to give you an extension until they put together your package. You are supposed to rescind all of your applications when you accept ED, and some schools on your list might get notice that you have been accepted ED. ED acceptances are shared among a number of colleges.

It’s up to your college, so you should have contacted Admissions immediately. It’s possible that the school will simply move your app to RD status since you can’t make a decision until you get the aid package and you haven’t submitted the info for the school to get it together. Colleges are closing for the winter holidays soon, so you can’t get a package until next year. It’s not fair to permit you such an extension when it was you who caused the problem, so IMO, the best way to handle this is to defer you. But that’s just my opinion, and it’s up to the school.

Any more opinions? Bump.

Call the school. They are the only ones who can tell you the consequences if submitting your financial aid application information VERY late…this isn’t a little late for ED…it is very late.

For ED, you need to submit your financial aid info on time…because if you get accepted, you have a VERY small window to accept that admissions offer…or not. You NEED the financial aid award to help make this decision (unless you can be a full pay student).

Call Penn. See what they tell you to do. They will give you the information you need. Call first thing Monday morning. If it were me, I would submit the Profile NOW, and send Prnn all of the supporting info required. When you call Monday, you can say you submitted on Saturday.

are you a US Citizen/Permanent resident or international student?

If you are an international student, it could be a major problem because if you did not complete the process, you most likely will get no aid.

If you are a US citizen/Permanent resident:
Go on line, DO the CSS profile, non custodial profile and whatever other financial aid forms that the school ask for. Print a copy with whatever supporting documentation they need. Make copies, scan a set in so that you have it ready to send overnight mail or email.

The problem is that your decision to attend is coming very soon and many of the offices will be closed for the holiday.

This is a time where your parents are going to have to do the calling and the explaining .Have them call firs thing monday morning. They will have to work with the school to get all the information to penn so that a financial aid decision can be made.

I don’t know what UPenn does in situations like this, but I’m wondering if ED schools are starting to tire of this. It happens every year. ED students get accepted, and THEN apply for aid…and then instead of accepting, the student (or parents) ask for an extension for depositing because no FA pkg has been rec’d. So, there’s a delay of several weeks…and there may even be an appeal if the pkg isn’t desirable. This essentially allows the student enough time to possibly receive other offers from other schools and compare pkgs.

Your forgetting may be innocent (altho, how could you AND your parents forget), you have essentially created a situation where even if you are accepted, you’re going to get several add’l weeks to decide.

This thread may all be for naught. Your stats are not likely strong enough to get accepted to UPenn. You have no hook and you’re from the state of Penn…so no regional diversity or ethnic diversity.

I agree I think that my chances are so small of getting in that I’m not sure if I should do anything until waiting Monday.

I would submit the Profile NOW. If you DO get accepted, at least you can say your Profile was submitted…and ask what will happen.

If you get accepted and THEN submit the Profile, I’m not sure that is your best plan.

Wait until you hear, save your money if you don’t get in.

The problem is only that you would have to accept before they can determine your FA package, but you’ll have to be okay with that.

Penn SFS is kind of incompetent (from what I heard). My friend submitted all her materials by Nov 3rd last year and was accepted. However, it was only AFTER she got accepted that Penn told her that she was missing financial documents, and she (and another acceptee) didn’t receive their package until at least a week later.
