Applying EA and ED1

Is it possible, for example, to apply EA to UVA and ED to Brown?

Look at both school’s website and the rules are typically laid out very clearly. If there is any doubt contact the school directly.

You can apply to any EA school, public or private, along with one ED school. However, you will have to withdraw all other applications if accepted, in your case, to Brown.

Many EA schools allow you to apply ED elsewhere and most ED schools allow you to apply EA elsewhere. However, there are EA colleges that allow you to apply EA elsewhere but not ED and there are some EA colleges, referred to as single choice early action colleges, such as Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, that prohibit you from applying ED and EA elsewhere with the exception of applying to public universities Morever, there are a small number of ED colleges that prohibit you from applying EA elsewhere. As a result, you must check the rules of each college to which you will be applying. UVA allows you to apply EA or ED elsewhere and Brown allows you to apply EA elsewhere (except to colleges that have sinlge choice early action). Thus, you can apply to UVA EA and Brown ED, but do not assume you can apply elsewhere EA without checking the colleges’ rules.

Yes. Uva is public
