Applying early??

Say deadline is March 31, a person sends in an app feb 15, is there an advantage, or do they put all the apps aside and look at them at the same time?

I'm leaning towards what they do for most freshman admissions- put yoru app aside and look at them all together after the submission deadline.

My d's gc said that it does make a difference to apply early. I suppose, however, it depends on the college.

Definitely depends on the school. Some are officially "rolling," so you will get your answer faster. Some are unofficially rolling, so you may ge tyour answer faster and it may help your chances. Others (usually the most selective) don't process the transfer apps until after the deadline - for a variety of reasons, including that they are overwhelmed with the freshman admissions process right up until April 1.

I emailed UVa about this, and they said they won't even begin to start reading until late march to allow everything to come in. Most schools are the same way, unless they're rolling. But I actually havent heard of any rolling transfer schools, but i'm sure theyre out there.
Best advice? Shoot an email or a phone call to the school, they'll either say a simple yes or no =)

Several schools are rolling for transfer. A couple that I happen to know: Purdue, St. Louis U., Lehigh (sort of), Miami of Ohio. I'm sure there are many.

I wish submitting earlier helped your chances! I applied to NYU & GWU for this current term but they deferred my application because I'm only a college freshman, but I believe they have all my stuff with the exception of a midyear report.

To add to jmmom, I believe Michigan also has rolling admissions for transfer. Here's a list of schools with rolling admissions: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/webex/Getting_a_late_start_free.php

applying early to a school for second the spring semester of freshman year is usually no difference. I know I spoke to NYU, and they said that applications automatically get deffered for the fall semester since college freshman are not allowed to transfer into the spring semester.
