If I’m taking the SAT next month for the third time
and I’m CONFIDENT I will improve my scores, should I submit my application WITH or WITHOUT my March and May SAT scores?
The reason I don’t want to send my current SATs is because they’re not good enough. I understand that November 5th is the last test date for ED applicants; I’m guessing scores will be released the last week of November, once the majority of ED applications have already been reviewed. What I’m scared of is: What if the admissions officers outright reject me after seeing my old SAT scores? Would they still go back to my application once they receive my new November scores? To avoid this, should I just submit the Common App without SAT scores and just send Dartmouth my November SATs? TIA!
Bump!
I think your early decision application requires either SAT or ACT scores when it is due, so you may not have a choice. Maybe contact admissions to be sure?
That’s tough…
If you don’t mind telling, what are your current SAT scores? Dartmouth does superscore, so maybe it would be worth sending in one or both of your previous scores, just in case.
Superscoring won’t help My June SAT (1290) was higher than my March SAT (1240). I know, they’re TERRIBLE considering Dartmouth’s average is 1500+, but I’ve been studying really hard and hope to score at least a 1450 (I made the stupid mistake of not stuyding AT ALL for my previous SATs) My GPA and rank are perfect (1/709), and I’d say my extracurriculars, recommendations, and essays are above average. It’s just my SATs that are messing everything up! >:P I’m also hispanic, so I’m hoping that’ll give me a small boost :)!
OP - This is actually quite straightforward. This is from the Dartmouth website:
“If you submit scores from both the SAT and ACT, we will look at your highest equivalent score. For the SAT, we take the highest section scores, regardless of the test dates.”
Therefore, go onto the CollegeBoard website today and send Dartmouth your June SAT plus the November ones (which will be sent to Dartmouth as soon as available.) It seems likely that you will have done better since you are studying really hard. Dartmouth will superscore. Good luck.
Thank you! @londondad What about self reporting my scores on the Common App? Do I just leave it blank?
OP - I have always recommended to my kids to leave the SAT scores blank on the Common App as all schools have different requirements as to which scores they require/use.
I haven’t seen the Common App since 2008, but the only scores that were typically self-reported on it were AP exam results in the “other awards etc” section. I’ve never heard of someone self-reporting other scores.
