SAT IIs - Too late?

I was wondering that if I apply ED and give my SAT IIs in November will the scores reach Dartmouth in time because the Nov SAT results are on Nov 20th? Is that going to be really late or just in time?

Cheers!
Ajay

Clearly posted on the Dartmouth website:

You may apply for Early Decision even if you have not yet taken two SAT II: Subject Tests. You must, however, take two SAT II's no later than January of your senior year.

erm...am I at some disadvantage if I dont have my SAT II scores are not available when I apply ED?

well high SAT II scores are always good i guess..

You should check Dartmouth's admissions schedule for ED on their website.

Apps need to be there by Nov 1! So what I need to know is that will my results reach Dartmouth if they are out on Nov 20 and will Dartmouth consider it for ED or defer my decision?

For early, schools don't make their final final decisions until about a week before they notify students. If I remember Dartmouth came out around Dec 15so November SAT II's should get there in time to be considered. You can always call and ask.

ajayc, if you cannot read their website, and refuse to read the quote, taken directly from the website, that I posted in #2, perhaps you should rethink Dartmouth.

Dartmouth accepts January SAT IIs for ED. Since November is before January, I'd say they accept November scores for ED.

hahaha Man go read the whole thing yourself!

These test results will be used in further evaluating the applications of deferred Early Decision applicants and for academic placement of accepted candidates.

HOW can Dartmouth use my January scores when they will be mailing out decisions on Dec 15? Read the last line too. And you are asking me to reconsider Dartmouth? WOW

if you are taking the test in november, isn't that before january of your senior year?

I am in my senior year now. :) My senior year started this April and will end March 2008.

...Where do you go to school?

erm....am an international student. India. :p

i guess my point is that november 2007 is before january 2008.....no matter when your senior year starts.

ajayc, the quote clearly mentions that Dartmouth will use January SAT II scores for accepted students for academic placement. Maybe you should reconsider Dartmouth. Honestly, how straightforward do they have to be...

When the decisions come out in dec, 15th and it appears that:

1.you've been deferred, they will look at the recently received scores to determine whether they will eventually accept/reject/waitlist you in March.

you've been accepted, they will evaluate your scores and use it when they place into a course.

you've been rejected, they will do nothing with the scores.

You have a very reasonable question. I would call them to get the answer, because it is not answered on the website.
My guess is they would get the scores in time- but call!

Duygu : Well all I am asking is whether my scores will reach them in time or not. Having good SAT II scores obviously will help me.

danas: I tried calling them but waking up late in the night and then calling is a great pain :D But still I will give it a few more tries OR write a mail. I havent written a mail as I never recieved a reply to any of my two previous mails ;)

tux: what do you mean by academic placement? I mean I choose a major and then apply or am I missing something? And reconsidering Dartmouth is out of question. If I cant apply ED I will apply RD.

By the same virtue, having bad scores will obviously hurt you. Just remember that when you submit your November results, there's no turning back. If Dartmouth does accept your scores (which they probably will) then what if you don't do well in November? Of course, all of this is hypothetical.

I would never ask questions or communicate by mail. It would be very uncouth to do so.

tux: what do you mean by academic placement?

She means that you can get placed into certain classes based on your scores and/or placement tests. You don't declare a major when you apply, and you won't have to for about 2 years if you matriculate.

I'd hate to be the wet blanket on everything here, but you shouldn't take everything so literally. Like when you were reading the SAT FAQs, you wanted to discern the most specific scenarios. I would've just chalked it up on the par, and moved on. You should've realized that it comes down to this:

1) Your SAT IIs will not be accepted. Fine, you still have your regular SATs (assuming they're decent), and that's all you ever need for ED.

2) Your SAT IIs will be accepted. Great, or not so great, depending on your scores from the November administration.

3) Your regular SATs in October weren't so hot. Good, so you don't risk ED.

It's simple deductive reasoning. Note that you can also infer likely scenarios from all the data. For example, it probably doesn't take that much to reason that Dartmouth will most likely accept your November SAT results - Dartmouth is not some authoritarian institution strictly bent on the rules, ya know.

Thanks for the reply.

Well I have never had a problem with the Suject Tests but yes I can't rule out the scenario that I might screw them too. But that is a risk I will have to take.

About the Academic placement, yeah I apologise for asking such a ruddy question. I was in a hurry and forgot that we dont have to declare our major for 2 years.

And yeah the mail I meant was e-mail not the snail mail! :p
