applying for both spring and fall

Hi, I will be applying to the University of Michigan as a junior very shortly and was wondering if it was a good idea to apply for spring/winter 2011 transfer, then if i do not get accepted, reapply for fall 2011 transfer. Is that possible? I heard transferring in the spring is harder...truth to this?

From what I know, comparatively, there are fewer spots available for spring.

spring is harder, but there’s no harm in reapplying if you don’t get in the first time around

I know Michigan’s deadline date for spring is October 1 and its fall deadline is february 1, but is there a certain date i will hear about my spring decision, do you think it will be somewhere around the fall deadline date? could this pose a problem for reapplying?

I’d kind of like to know whether, in applying the second time around, it would be necessary to write completely new essays.

^ yes, of course. something would obviously be missing the first time around. you need to show improvement and maturity and that you’ve changed for the better. you want to prove that you’re someone that they’ll want. the best way to do that is to go beyond numbers and write about those reasons in your essay

@ tom0lambert7, just for clarification purposes UMich’s Winter term refers to January, their Spring one corresponds to May and Fall of course is a given. Now, when applying for the Winter or Spring term, your chances of admission into any of the designated programs of your election, are comparable to that of gaining acceptance into the Fall term. The only primary discrepancy(ies) is however, there may be less spots and the applicant pool will be lower to say the least. Meaning that your academics will be of the utmost importance and hence if you applied for the fall or winter/spring and was accepted you would still be admitted for the reciprocal, as they’re are equally competitive in that respect, but to be redundant just less applicants. Although, if there was a significant grade increase in your Winter grades, implying that you apply for the fall term or wasn’t admitted for the Winter(January term) you would want to send those to the office of admission and bring that to their attention. Furthermore, best of luck, applying as a junior is easier(more emphasis on college grades) and PM me if you have any further questions; as I transferred to Michigan in Spring 2009(May term) to become acclimated to my surroundings and to become equipped with the essential tools for the fall.

Best, Dave

thanks for the help Dave. So basically, I will just update my grades/gpa if i were to be denied acceptance for Winter transfer and also redo the essays. When did you recieve your decision by when you got accepted for spring? and I have been on CC for a while but have not ever looked into the PM feature so I am not sure how that works, sorry for the inconvenience. I will be applying for winter 2011 with a 3.7 something gpa and if i were not to be accepted i would be applying fall 2011 with a 3.8 something gpa. What were your stats when you got accpeted if you don’t mind me asking??
