Transferring to U of Mich.

I'd like a UM recent transfer ( or someone who's well informed on UM transfers) to answer my questions please.

I'm going to be a freshman at MSU Honors this fall.

My top choice was UM, but I got deferred, then waitlised for 5 months, then ultimately rejected.

I'm thinking of applying for fall '09 at mich.( To LSA, then transfer into Ross Junior year)

Anyway, to the questions:

1) Do I apply as soon as the application is out? (Aka do transfer students fall in the ''early decision'' group?) Because I believe the key to my rejection was applying late this year, so I don't want to repeat the same mistake.

2) I noticed that the essay questions are the same as last years, should I re-use the same ones, or write new ones?

3) Will I need my high school record? (3.9 gpa, 1940 sat, 790/750 sat II's, and 5 calc 5 eco 4 chem AP's)

4) All in all, how tough is it going to be as a transfer from MSU?

Thanks a lot for any responses, I've probably had a similar thread months ago(before my rejection), but now that we're close to fall, I want to be sure of every step I take.

Thanks again.

You should apply for transfer as soon as you can, because its just like freshman apps, which is a first come first serve basis. I believe there is no early decision or anything like that in transfers because i think they put transfer applications in a completely different pool. To be more specific on the time frame, send in the application right after it comes out(WIth the essays written), then as soon as you are finished with your first semester at State, send in those grades and your highschool grades to the office of admissions. DO NOT use the same essays, the office of admissions will definitley look into that. And your high school record is just as important as your college record unless you have 60 transerable credits or more in college, which you dont. Ross is now a 3 year program, which means that you have to apply after your freshman year of college, but to transfer into Ross from another school is EXTREMELY(and I mean it) difficult.. its hard to speculate on how hard it is to get into UM as a transfer, because there have been a couple of people who have been accepted with a 3.2 and some who have been rejected with a 4.0. To make yourself more desirable, take more credits towards your chosen major and make sure your credits are transferable. oh yeah, and dont forget about getting good grades.
All in all, it depends on the number of applicants and the level of their academic success. UM usually receives about 3000-3500 transfers every Fall term and it is VERY competitive.

good luck.

Thanks for your reply, but I have a question...

The first prompt :''We know that diversity makes us a better university – better for learning, for teaching, and for conducting research.”..etc

I've lived in the UAE most of my life, and my freshman application response was about the UAE. If I wrote another one it would probably be extremely similar?

Should I go ahead and write a similar essay? Won't it be kind of cheesy if they looked into my previous essay and found them very similar in their core?

bump, please more insight, thank you very much.
