Applying for community college-not eligible to return to previous?

I have a friend who 25 and married with a kid. He didn’t do so well in high school and college, but is extremely motivated to go back to school.

He recently looked into applying to a nearby community college, but they require that you send them transcripts from previous colleges attended. The problem is that he may not be eligible to return, due to academic reasons (low grades). Is there a way around this? Does he just not include it? How can he go back to school?

He should sit down face2face with an admissions officer.

There is a data base that colleges can and do access. No he can not get around it, and to try would be dishonest. Community college would not deny him admittance because of poor grades. They may not take any credits in transfer. And worse case scenario his argument is that he’s a different person now, more mature and with goals.

Also, the colleges he attended before are from a different state and the grades he earned weren’t that great. Actually, I don’t think he even finished a semester.

bumping…

Most community colleges are open enrollment. I was academically dismissed from my first college and still submitted that transcript even though no credit transferred (started from scratch). After successfully completing my associates degree at the CC I was able to transfer. Again I had to include all transcripts. Some 4-year schools are forgiving/understanding, others require appealing to the right person, others still are simply doors closed, but the point is that it is not impossible to finish. As long as he treats school like a 9-5 job, he’ll be fine.
