Applying for fall of 2010 Cornell

How do you know that the first transfer admission letter was received on April 13?

on the fall’09 forum the person who got in on that date wrote the date the letter was written

These essays are hard… any tips, anyone?

What do you do if they have 1 out 2 teacher Recc. Letters? Teacher 1 waited until after midterms and it has worked to my advantage. Teacher 2 has already sent my letter in so they have checked off that portion of the application as complete.

I don’t want admissions to look at my application without the letter from Teacher 1 so I am currently holding the College Official’s Report (sealed of course) in order for my application status to remain incomplete.

Is this bad?

blech, this week sucks. cramming for midterms, finishing essays, prepping for interviews, writing for contests, trying to remember the other billion things i need to do…i kind of feel like giving up b/c there’s so much to do (but i won’t). so CALS won’t consider your SATs/SATIIs at all, even if theyre near perfect? Boo.

Also, am I at a disadvantage if my transcripts/SSRs reach cornell after march 15th? i found out today that my school takes a month to send in anything and my HS counselor say that my hs transcript will be mailed out in 3 weeks (boo!).

^ No kidding. This application is like having an additional 4-credit class.

And I believe admission officers won’t read your application until all of your materials are in. So as long as everything is postmarked by the 15th, I wouldn’t be worried about any form of a ‘disadvantage.’

Wait. So do I not need to send in my ACT scores at all (like melonbread’s question)? I know that the FAQs say that they are not needed, but are they optional?

lol at the 4 credit course. I did not send ANY Sat or act to CALS.

I know 1 person who got rejected from Cornell and she thinks it was because of her SAT score. So unless your score is stella, submitting SAT score is not a smart thing to do.

stelllllllaaaaaaaaaa

do you know how much LOR’s really mean in the eyes of an admissions officer?

Advice for people who have already sent their stuff in: I just read my essays, and there is so much I want to change. Ugh. Once your essays are in, don’t even look at them. It will ruin your day.

EDIT: how “tough” is Bio considered at Cornell? It’s a difficult major, sure, but is it in the “don’t bother if you got a B+” club someone mentioned a page back?

Reply from the admission staff says that they will be sending transfer applicants for review shortly, at the moment freshmen applicants are being reviewed.

thank you for the update, hiroseAki!

@somedudehere: Hehe ya I did that, never again.

@Hiroseaki: So transfers are based on rolling? I haven’t completed everything yet.

DON’t send your scores in. I thought we needed to and my scores aren’t stellar as ntmikey said. I hope they keep their word that it won’t affect my review but what can I do? They’ll look at it anyway…

Other than that, I’m a sophomore so I have enough courses to back me up. I greatly regret sending them in.

I am not sure, but I think they will start reviewing transfer applicants when they are done with freshmen.

Oh my god. I sent in my ACT scores. They’re not bad by any standard, but now I feel like I shouldn’t have sent them in. I hope they don’t affect my application review.

gawd the Cornell application self service system is sooooooooo slow. why can’t an ivy league uni use a faster server?!

lol guys don’t worry if they do look at them, they won’t put much weight on them anyways. Like I emailed CALS and they said they don’t even look at them if you send them.

It’s all good girls and guys  Chin up :D

So I got my midterm reports signed by my bio and got an A, chem lab will be an A, Cal A, hopefully, and then writing A, but in chem I have a B lol. Should I explain it?

I have had no midterms except for chem.

^How would you give them your explanation? Send along a letter with the report?

And in the explanation, you would have to say that the reason why Chem is a B is because you had a midterm in that class, but have yet to have one in all of the others.
