Applying for fall of 2010 Cornell

well it’s the commonapp plus the cornell supplement, which asks its own set of questions. and the undergrad business program is AEM, which is in CALS. it’s one of the most competitive majors.

I feel like nobody transfers to the College of Engineering.

thanks Knight and ironic

does cornell give priority to sophomore transfers over junior transfers?

I don’t think so. The fact that there are more sophomore transfers likely reflects the applicant pool.

Is anyone transferring to the college of engineering?

To Rookie_1: Yes, I am! But I feel like the only one!

i think you never hear of anyone transferring into engineering because it’s ridiculously hard to get in. it’s one of the most selective schools at cornell. for transfers, AAP and eng are the hardest (i believe…? i’m pretty sure they both only took something like 15 kids last fall. if i remember to, i’ll look for exact numbers later) to get into.

@ azonic, ironicallyunsure and Wateradept,

I choose the Hotel School because I want to be around people and develop interpersonal skills as well as business foundations. I went through their website and they have a sound business curriculum.

I also want to start my career as an investment analyst and they offer Investment Banking as a major concentration so I decide to go there.

Can you share some tips on writing essays? I’ve been writing my essays for two weeks and still stuck. Feel really bad :(

Hi everyone, I’m applying for this fall too (CALS, Molecular and Cell Bio)
I just started working on the app and got stuck at the secondary school profile and transcript. Since I went to high school in another country, should I have my mom go to the school and ask for these? I’m so confused. I don’t know if my high school in Vietnam even does this.

Oh btw this is my stats:

Major: Molecular and Cell Bio
GPA: 3.943 (All A+ in Bio and one A+ in O-Chem so far)
TOEFL: 105 (I’m International Student)
Phi Theta Kappa
Honors Program (Speech, Anthropology and Critical Thinking/ Writing)

3 Bio Research Projects
Bio/Chem/ Math Tutor for 2 years
Tennis Club Vice President
Webmaster of a Charity Foundation for 5 years
Volunteer at a hospital (100 hours)
Class president in high school (3 years)
Class yearbook editor (12th grade)

2 good recommendation letters from my Molecular Bio teacher + Organic Chem teacher

@collegebatman “If I’m only applying to Cornell, my personal statement on the Common App should be Cornell-focused right? I’m just worried it will sound the same as the one on my Supplementary… Any tips?”

exactly. I’m confused about this too.

Oh I see it now:
[Finance and Accounting Concentration](http://www.hotelschool.cornell.edu/academics/ugrad/concentrations/finance.html#SecurityAnalyst)

I never expected the Hotel school to have the IB concentration.

I’m also applying for engineering; just finished writing up my course descriptions for Freshman year and last semester. UGH.

ntmikey, you have pretty good stats, but your toefl score may be on the low end if it’s out of 120 (i believe it is… correct me if i’m wrong), so make sure your essays shine.

for those of you wondering about the CA essay, i applied to only cornell and made my CA essay all about cornell, so go for it. the academic interest essay is asking you to explain how you got interested in your major. they’re looking for a story basically. make the CA essay about why you want to transfer, focusing on academic reasons and then you can throw in a few non-academic reasons as well.

@ironicallyunsure: yeah it’s 105/120 (equivalent to 620 of old toefl). cornell does not specify a minimum TOEFL score, but collegeboard says international students should get 100 for cornell.

and about the essay, thanks for your advice! i guess i just need to write a new essay for my common app, coz i will use my UC essay (i applied to UC too and they basically have the same prompt) for the supplemental one.

Do I fill out my FAFSA for both schools- the current one and one for Cornell? Just in case I do or don’t get in.

Can we start sending documents yet or do we have to send them after Feb 15? It says February 15 to March 15 is the “deadline” but I feel like it means the window to send it in by.

I emailed them about it and they said it is fine. But I already submitted my application when I asked , so I’m not sure if it will make a difference. Mid-February is when they start logging the application items online because they’re currently busy with the 1st year apps for Fall.

from my understanding cornell does not require a secondary school report fro transfers. just a college official’s report from your current college.

is there a unit cap for cornell? i just read on another thread that said we are not allowed to bring in more than 30 units…is this true? i have 59 units so far from a california community college and will have 70+ by the end of spring.

Does that mean you are denied admission from Cornell completely or there’s a cap on how many units can transfer to Cornell?
