Applying for Housing

Hey,

I got accepted a while back and need to apply for housing. However, I am not sure if I'll be attending come fall since I'm waiting to hear from other schools I applied to. From what I've read, applying for housing is a non-binding agreement, but when I went to the website to apply "<a href="https://www.rpsdirect.indiana.edu/RPSDirectOneStart/HousingApplication/">https://www.rpsdirect.indiana.edu/RPSDirectOneStart/HousingApplication/</a>" it says I need to pay $200. Can someone clarify this for me?

Also, what dorm would you suggest for me to apply to? I've heard you can't choose specific dorms, but rather neighborhoods. Does the Northwest neighborhood sound like a good fit for an east coast / partier / outgoing wellrounded type?

Thanks

You need to send in a $200 deposit to secure housing. If you decide not to go to Indiana, they'll refund $150.00.

Northwest neighborhood is where you'll find most of the freshman. From what I understand, it's pretty noisy with all the parties they have going on there.

You can get all of your $200 (they might keep $50) back if you tell them before July 1, so yes, it is nobinding. From what I hear, northwest is the party neighborhood, while central is the mixed party/studying neighborhood. I wish you could select dorms though, because there are some dorms in each neighborhood I would never in a million years want to live in.

After your freshman year, you can select specific houses. The first year you have to make do with selecting neighborhoods. They have to fill up the dorms no one likes somehow, you know! (just kidding...well, partially, anyway)

You will find plenty of partiers in any part of campus. You may want to figure out where most of your classes will be--if you know your major--and pick a neighborhood in that area.

How are thematic communities? Specificaly, international business and/or outdoor adventure or sports & society?
