My parents strongly preferred that I waited until I committed to a school to apply for housing, so I didn't apply until May 1st when I made my final decision to go to IU.

I am just wondering if anyone knows through experience or anything else if it is still possible to get into my 1st or 2nd choice neighborhood even though I applied later than most. (I did not apply to any living/learning communities though). Living in the 3rd choice one wouldn't be the most awful thing in the world, but I visited and even stayed overnight with a current student as a part of the HOST program and I did not particularly like it as much.

Thanks for any help.

A current student on Facebook said to me that the Northwest neighborhood and Central Neighborhood were fully claimed by mid-April and that SE is close to capacity.

If you waited until May 1st, there’s a decent chance you will end up in overflow housing such as Banta, Bicknell, Hepburn, Nutt, Tulip Tree, or Redbud Hill. These generally aren’t for Freshman and are almost two miles from the center of Campus.

It probably wasn’t the smartest idea to wait so long.

Things will work out. I’ve seen a number of posts from past students who applied late and got one of their top choices or were able to move/transfer or ended up liking or at least doing just fine in their assigned housing, even if it wasn’t their first choice. This was the case of a senior from my D’s HS who applied late last year. Didn’t get his top pick but had a great year & loved it at IU.
