Applying.. is it too late?

After a talk with one of my teachers, I'm deciding whether I should apply to Cornell. I want to apply to CALS for AEM, but the biggest issue right now is the deadlines. I read on their website that their postmark date is January 2. I can send the Common App online so that shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand.. my recommendations, transcripts, and finaid papers are giving me a bit of a headache. On their website it said it can received shortly after the deadline. I don't return to school until January 5th, so I can't get my transcripts until then. Will it still be okay if I send it around January 5-6th? I just don't know if their postmark date is Jan 2 for the papers as well.

Should I even waste my time applying for AEM? I heard their acceptance rate is very low and I definitely definitely do not have wow stats..

i know the deadlines seem super tight (and they tell you that they are) however you'll find that after december 31st/whenever the app is due you're gonna receive a million letters in the mail and emails saying "are you still applying? we haven't received ____" ... basically as long as you have sent SOMETHING into the school by the deadline you SHOULD be fine... that being said they CAN always hold it against you but you will probably be fine

make sure you send everything that you have control over by that deadline...

SAT scores, Essays and the Common Application are things you have control over...

things you might not have control are letters of rec and transcripts sent by your school...

woo! i have a question concerning the deadlines as well!
when a school says their deadline is jan.2, does that mean i can send in my common app materials on that day before 12:00 am of the next day?

i never knew when the actual deadline hour was - but i always played it safe and submitted it before 12 AM of the day that they said it was due.

ie: if it's due jan 2, i'd send it in jan 1 - before it turns to jan 2. plus - is 24 hours going to make THAT much of a difference?
