Applying List

I'm planning on majoring in Communications/Journalism to become a News Broadcast Analyst. New York is probably the best city for majoring in communications, and there were a few that stood out to me.

-Pace University
-St. John's University
-Fordham University
-University at Albany

Are these good choices? Which of them would you prefer? Do you have any other suggestions? I will be paying out of state tuition as I live in the south, and will need all the financial aid I can get as I live in a single parent home. Also, is Fordham as hard to get into as everyone says?

Albany is not in the city. It’s about three hours north, at the state capital. You should consider Syracuse as well (their broadcast journalism program is top-notch). What are your stats? How close are you to Fordham’s medians? Are you above them? That will give you a ball-aprk understanding of your chances.

I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA (Including college classes I’ve taken via Dual Enrollment), I also qualified for honers classes at my college, but have yet to take any. I have not taken the ACT or SAT’s yet, but will this summer.
So far for this year I have accumulated 164 hours of community service, but I am doing intensive volunteer work at a news broadcast station starting in May and continuing throughout next year. I was also accepted into the Media Arts program at NOCCA, a prestigious and very selective performance art school in New Orleans and will begin that in the fall. Next year I’m taking two AP classes; AP English, and AP American Government/Civics, and I will be taking honors Biology at my college (I took Physical Science my Freshman Year, and Chemistry I my Sophomore year.
The only problem that I worry about in my SAT’s and ACT’s is the Math. Algebra and Geometry are definitely not my strong subjects, but I’m hoping my excellence in Science and English will override that in the test scores.

I have heard that Fordham really looks into EC’s, and as you can tell I will be doing quite a few, but it really is not the main college I’m looking at.
I have looked into Syracuse, and was thoroughly impressed by their program. How is the Syracuse Area? I have been to NYC, and I know Albany is far from the City, but is Syracuse a small town? I prefer more of a city atmosphere, and I think it would benefit me better when looking for a job. Also, I am thoroughly interested in graduating early, as I will complete all of my requirements by the end of my Junior year. Will this prohibit my chances of getting into those schools? Thanks!
