After getting flat-out rejected from Cornell a few days ago, I've since regrouped and gotten my act together. I plan on applying to UVM, among other schools such as TCNJ and Drew University

I have all A's and A+'s in honors/AP classes throughout my highschool career
Class rank 3 out of 100
SAT Math + Crit reading is 1360, total is 2040
I'm a white male, go to a small parochial school in NJ (400 kids total)
Extracurriculars, varsity sports, community service, a solid essay, the whole shabang

My questions are:
Do I have a good shot of getting accepted, despite applying rather late in the grand scheme of things?

Would I be able to get some sort of merit scholarship, even though I am out of state?

Is it possible for me to gain acceptance into the Honors College? I would almost definitely go to UVM if I gain acceptance to the Honors College.

I think you have a great shot at both the school and the honors program. UVM is not known for its generosity with merit to oos students. From what I understand the maximum scholarship is 3,000. I could be wrong and I hope I am as my D just got accepted. With your stats you could get lots of merit at many private schools!

I’m not so concerned with the merit aspect, as much as I am with getting into the Honors College. I really want to gain acceptance to it. Thanks for the information.

Most of my stats are around yours, and my guidance counselor told me that I should feel confident about my ability to get into the honors school… so I think you’re good! :)

@radannie: That sounds like a good idea. I think I will do that once they respond to my application.

@kaylala: Thanks for the encourging information! I really hope I get accepted into it. It looks like an awesome experience. Maybe if I get accepted I will see you there hahahhaa

Haha, yeah, definitely! I’d LOVE to be in the honors program as well, so my fingers are crossed also! Best of luck with your college applications!

I think you’ll probably get into the Honors college. I got in, and you definitely have a way better GPA and probably much better extracurriculars. I don’t think they offer much merit aid, though.

You should get into the honors program. And that’s not true about merit scholarships for oos. It’s true they don’t give much but they offered me 5k a year with a 3.66 GPA (weighted) and an 1830 on the SAT’s.

Well, I’m just waiting for them to respond to my application. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Honors College, because if I get accepted to it I plan on attending UVM. Best of luck to all of you and congratulations to those that have been accepted!

OP - my DS has same SAT stat and similar GPA to what you posted… He was accepted to honors college and offered $6000 yr… I would imagine that not all slots are filled prior to RD applications so hopefully there will be a spot for you. Good Luck!
