Applying the college

So I’ve been worrying a lot lately about getting into UF when i apply next year. During my freshmen year i slacked off, my sophomore year i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and fell behind in school because i was always out a doctors app. My junior year (currently) i have really stepped up my game with my grades. i get all A’s now and try hard with everything and study so much, I’ve become really involved with school. But applying to college gives me so much anxiety.
Ive quit a few things on college confidential and posts from other college related websites about people getting into UF with lower scale GPA and test scores but people with high GPA and test scores dont get in? Although many people do get in with higher GPA and scores because it is a competitive school.
My GPA is not the best and right now it lies at about 3.2, my test scores are not the best either (21). University of Florida is my dream school and i really would like some feed back on what anyone thoughts are about getting in. Ive personally heard of friends getting in with 3.2 and lower than that of a 2.8(fact). I have had family go to UF for undergrad and graduate school, i would like to continue this.
Ive become Vice President of a health academy at school, im apart of science club, explore florida club with helps boost floridas economy. During the summer i assist in animal surgery. I will be graduating with my certifications of phlebotomy, CMA, and CNA. Im also a member of the following organizations for donations: GLAAD, OCEAN CONSERVANCY, HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN, CHANGE ORGANIZATIONS, DSCC, DOSOMETHING COMMUNITY.

One of my friends was accepted with a 19 ACT.

Based on last year’s enrolled freshman students, 8% scored between a 18 and 23 on the ACT. Less than 1% scored lower than an 18. It’s possible to be part of this 9%, but you really should try to get your ACT up to a 24 or higher. 25% of enrolled freshman scored less than a 27 on the ACT.

UF puts more weight on GPA than test scores, About 2% of enrolled students had a UF weighted GPA below a 3.5. About 5% had a weighted GPA below 3.75.

Of course, UF uses holistic admissions, so about 50% is based on GPA, class rigor, test scores and the essay, the other 50% is based on your EC’s, leadership, work, etc. You’re fine here, but your GPA and test scores do make UF a reach.

Apply but have a back-up plan. Also try to get that test score up, when you re-take the test (and keep your GPA up this semester, finish the year strong!).

Good Luck!

BTW: Almost 1/4 to 1/3 of undergraduates are transfer students. A significant number of UF grads where transfer students, nothing wrong with that option!

The odds of being not a recruited athlete or some other special admit with test scores well out of range is quite unusual. Very rare.
