If someone were interested, at least right now, in subjects that range across two schools, WCAS and McCormick, say, for example, economics, physics, math, and engineering, what should that person put in the space on the app, 'proposed major'?

Are you applying to THAT particular major within that school at this time and therefore admissions might look at how well you might fit in that major in addition to logistical issues of how over or under enrolled THAT major is now...

or

when you apply to NU, are you applying to the university (also)?

And the rest of the question is: if the former, then would a rejection from the proposed major be a rejection from the university?

Another implied question: how does NU handle declared undecideds - I mean, the multi interested :) ? I am talking across those two schools that I mentioned, WCAS and McCormick.

As a comparison, NU's big10 brother school down the road, UIUC, also demands to know what major/school you want, but if admissions thinks there is not a fit with THAT major either due to seat availability or that the applicant is not sufficiently competitive with others in that major, and the applicant still has the skills for other university options, UIUC will put the applicant into something called the Division of General Studies, which seems to be a place to explore before committing to a school/major. The other reason for this could be the applicant's open declaration of undecided.

from the supplemental NU app ...
