Selectivity by major?

Hi, I'm a rising senior looking to apply to Northwestern next year. I'm interested in majoring in either economics or engineering but I don't really have any preference towards either since I'm equally interested in both. I know Northwestern has a great economics program so does that make it really hard to be accepted into WCAS for economics or is it similar for all majors in WCAS? Also would it be as selective as McCormick?

thanks!

They, like basically every other university, don't pay too much attention to what major you say you intend, since some stupidly high percentage of people will change majors at least once. My advice: Don't apply to McCormick unless you're actually interested in being an Engineer.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do like engineering and my applications will be 75+% engineering, though the problem with Northwestern is that it doesn't have the branch of engineering I really want to study. I really like Northwestern and as long as economics isn't insanely competitive to get into I'll probably apply as such.

one thing i liked about NU was that it was flexible about transferring between schools. unless it was extreme.

so if you find out sometime early freshmen yr that you actually dont want to do engineering or vise versa, i think you will be able to transfer

Because I'm curious, what type of engineering is it NU doesn't offer that you want to study?

aerospace (ten char)
