applying to canadian schools...Have i messed up?

ok first i decided to make my first post double sided to get my introduction out of the way as well as get to the point...My name is Langdon Carson, and I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. For those of you who don't know (im sure your in the minority) It is in the middle east located by Saudi Arabia. It has been hailed as the "Las Vegas of the middle east"...I beg to differ. I go to the International syndicate of Repton School in the UK.
it is a new school but it is already gaining a reputation for being the best school in the middle east, and the first of it's kind in this part of the world.. I am 16 and i am in year 11, IGCSE. Oh yeah and I am a Prefect.

Now...I hope to be applying to canadian schools for the 2009/2010 academic year. I have not written an SSAT yet, but i just recieved my report card for this term......and it unfortunatly did not meet the expectations my parents had for me. To clearify i got a D in math :o .... and C's and B's in everything else (physics, Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Literature, and french)...The only EC's i have are Recycling club, and Rugby. Last years report card was literally B in every single subject, but it was at a different school.
The schools I wish to apply to are:
-Ridley College
-Upper canada college
-St.Andrew's college
if that helps...if anyone know's exactly how selective these schools are, your help would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking at what is required to get in to, what seems to be the Lord of the schools "Phillips Exeter Academy" which is what it seems alot of people go crazy on this forum for. So bottom line is..Do I still have a chance at getting accepted even though my marks this term were less that stellar?
Thanks for taking the time to read my question, i know it is longwinded but....yeah..
LC

I'm not familiar with Canadian schools, so I do not have any answers for you. However, if Langdon Carson is your real name, you should ask the moderators to remove your name. You can re-enter the site with another user name. It would be better not to post your personal information along with your name and where you live, go to school, etc. on a website read by many.

My bad What i ment was "Langdon Carson"

well i definitely know the schools..I am canadian.
ridley is extremely good... like the exeter of canada.
same with upper canada...
st andrews is also a great one.

oh wow if the schools you are applying to are the exeters of canada.....hmmm its not going to be good

hey I live in Toronto here! I know all of the schools you mentioned, but sorry I don't know much about boys' schools since Im a girl....

Are you only looking for boarding? here are many excellent day private schools too. A friend of mine got into Cresent, which is a nice school located in North York area. He scored mid-80's (I think) on his SSAT, and his grade average was in the mid-high 80's as well.

Your leadership position is really an advantage, but your grades are not so impressive. If it is because of a different grading system, make sure you explain it to the schools. Also provide them with your class averages, so they can have a more accurate picture of where you stand.

I know people who are currently attending UCC, and another one who attended St. Andrew's. If you'd like, I can ask them if they are ok to have a chat with you about the schools.

RJM-thanks for your input
Senay- I appreciate your bluntness, i was hoping nobody would sugar coat anything..
MeT00-It would be great if you could get me some input on the schools, just so i know what i am getting myself into, and what to expect after I apply...

I am trying to be as reaslistic as possible, obviously i am not going to set my bar higher than i can reach, and not to make excuses but the IGCSE course is quite demanding, and the grading system is quite different....although once again i know i messed up

Thanks for the answers everyone..more answers are more than welcome

grades. thats the problem. if you cant get good grades in public school, the exeters of canada should be x100 times harder

well who said I went to a public school? my school is a private school, the best in the whole region...and it goes by the IGCSE curriculum which is considerd by most as:
the IB, or I guess in your case AP of our age group meaning 15-17 year olds...its a course that one can take straight to college, when they receive the diploma, or even get jobs albeit, a limited selection... the course is demanding much more demanding that Pre-Ap courses, so im just clearing that up right now.

A second thing is that the reference to "exeter's of canada" was not literal it is true in the sense of heritage, and fame...but the schools are completely different, even with acceptance, other than the SSAT. Upper canada college does IB, Ridley and St.andrews do AP... which is a course that can be offerd at my school and the vast majority of other prep schools.

could a top knotch SSAT score will compensate for my abismol math grade?
thanks.

Yeah, rjm was just using Exeter - a well-known, well-respected school - as leverage for describing Ridley, I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I know all those schools, and they are all excellent. They are not as competitive in terms of 17% acceptance rates, but their academics are just as top-notch.

I'm fully aware of Crescent, and it's very good. It's location is also nice because it's slightly out of the core of Toronto (I live there as well) but is still in a nice neighbourhood.
