Applying to College

When is the best time for seniors to apply to college? Specifically, which month during the fall time?

It will depend upon the schools and their application deadlines. Some have rolling admissions and you can submit applications as early as August 2017 while others will have later deadlines in January 2018. Check each schools website for details.

ED and SCEA are typically Oct to early November. Reg admission is typically Jan 1.

Thanks for all the replies! The school I want to go to has an early action deadline of December 1st. So would I apply October?

I think the answer to that is you don’t rush to get it in any earlier than Dec 1, and keep polishing your essays and your app in general. You can send your SATs or ACT ahead and request rec letters at least one month ahead and better yet early Sept. If the deadline is Dec 1, they typically won’t start reading your app until after that date, so you don’t get any bonus points for submitting it early and those who rush are prone to typos and regrets and the like. Take your time to present your best work. But also, don’t wait til midnight. Sometimes in the past, servers have crashed with everyone waiting to the last minute. Make sure you send it a day to a week earlier than the deadline in my humble opinion.

Well the thing is, students have to apply by December 1st. I can’t apply past that. Many applicants have told me the best time is to apply fall.
