Applying to Cornell's ILR...starting to lose faith

So a few months back I realized that the number one place I wanted to transfer to was Cornell's ILR, they have absolutely everything I want. Upon receiving and reading the information they sent me, I had an overall good feeling about applying, my GPA is well above the average transfer GPA, I have solid EC's, etc... But the more I read on here I just feel like I might be wasting my time with applying to Cornell even though it is my dream school.

You tell me, am I indeed wasting my time, or should I continue through with the process? Do I at least have a chance at getting a GT?

College GPA- 3.79 (community college)
Courses- all serious and challenging courses, no pottery or anything of that sort. Took a few honors classes as well.
EC's- PTK, Pre-Law/Poli Sci club, full time job, Loads of independent research regarding non-verbal learning disability and asperger's that I have started to turn into a book. (Little brother suffers from this condition, hence my interest)

HS GPA 2.5
EC's- Varsity track, football, and wrestling

I will not be sending my SAT scores as it is optional.

My high school record is extremely poor because i simply goofed off, but I am hoping that they will see the dramatic improvement.

One last question, I currently have 40 completed credits, and am registered for another 15 in the fall, should I apply for the spring semester or wait and apply for fall of 2011, in hopes they will put more emphasis on my college record?

i would apply for fall for 2 reasons: fall applicants get a ton of GTs, which means the spring pool is extra competitive and because you want to get away from your HS record. you should certainly try, but your essays will need to wow them to get you in.
