hi, im not sure if this has been touched upon in previous topics but i thought id give it a go anyway...

i was accepted to michigan last week and got my letter in the mail yesterday...1) what decides if your invited to apply for honors and 2) are they still even sending out invitations/applications

also, if you are offered a merit scholarship when do those go out, and are they still going out....thanks!

Hockeyguy,

I received a scholarship offer about two weeks ago, so I guess that they are still in the process of giving them out. Also, my mom called Mich this weekend, and they said that they will continue notifying people if they got other merit scholarships.

I would advise calling them; this worked for us.

Good Luck!

i was invited to apply to the honors college

Hockeyguy, there are several other threads on this issue, but the answer is that a certain percentage of admittees are invited to apply to the honors college by submitting an essay on one of three topics provided to them. Some top top students are invited to the honors program without writing the essay, but they are few and far between. According to the Class Day speaker, submitting the essay is a way of flagging your file for review by their readers, and is much more effective than waiting and hoping that they will get to your file on their own. If you have not received an invitation to apply, simply call or email the honors program and request an invitation. There is no cutoff score or special requirements to get an invitation, just need to show interest. It will then take about a month from submission of your essay to hear about acceptance. It is important to submit the essay as soon as possible, since there is not enough honors housing to go arounds, and those who are last admitted to the program may find themselves outside the program housing.
