I'm a Canadian student, and it was my second time writing the SATs.
Last time I wrote (Jan 2013) I got 2050.
This time I got:
CR: 680 (I thought I would get at least 700!!)
Math: 800 (Really surprised about this one. Never scored a 800 before on my practice tests...)
Writing: 710 E9 (:( upset about this one. I thought I did well. Apparently not.)
Total: 2190

I'm applying to the Ivies. Do you think I should rewrite in December? Do I stand a chance with this score?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!

Your Maths score is really good (I won’t say perfect because it is what a lot of Ivy applicants will have). But you should consider retaking the test because of your CR score. If you ever get a lower score in Maths, just use your superscore.

Your scores are similar to DS (all over improvement) and we are from Canada too (Ontario, GTA).

He got 2040 in June (730 CR; 730 M; 580 W E8)
He got 2220 in Oct (760 CR; 750 M; 710 W E10)

I read in many places that you should have all scores in the 700s (for Ivies and top schools) so suggest retaking.

What are your subject tests and when are you taking them. DS is taking Biology and Math 2 in December. He really only started studying for the Physics after SAT 1, did a practise test after realizing he has not learned that much (taking grade 12 physics in semester 2) so we decided to refocus on biology instead (he got a 95% grade 12 class last year in grade 11). We switched the date from Nov to Dec now that we are not going SCEA - too complicated to get the teacher recs in time for November.

I wrote my Math II and Chemistry subject tests last June. I got 750 on my math and 720 on my chemistry. I’m retaking the chemistry one this November.

I have a 4.0 GPA and a good average (98% grade 11 + 12). The thing is, my AP scores are TERRIBLE. I bombed my exams. I have a 4 in chemistry and 3 in calculus. I do have a 5 in psychology, but almost everyone aces their psychology exam.
Thankfully, I’m not going into the sciences, but ironically, I only have test scores in the science area. Do you think that the bad AP scores will hurt my chances?

Then I really don’t know what to tell you. Ivy-wise, 2190 is not outstanding but still very good. You might be less competitive, but I guess it all depends on you app as a whole. What have you accomplished? Do you have anything that makes you stand out from the crowd? That kind of stuff.

Also, there is usually very little improvement between a second and third sitting. You might increase your score of maybe 10-20 points in CR. Is it really worth it? Harvard might not regard your third sitting as highly as your second one. Two sittings is a good number, you should be fine.

If you have great ECs and impressive GPA, you should be fine.
A third seating may not impress any ivy. But its up to you, if you feel you can pull your score to a 2250 then go ahead!
