Applying to non-impacted majors?

Hey guys
I'm applying to csus, my primary choice being sdsu, and the only thing left is my major. I have undeclared down right now. I decided to take my general classes with some "intro to..." classes and see what I like from there. I've been doing some research and I'm wondering if this would work.
I know a class I wanna take is jap, and most likely minor on it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's harder to get into impacted majors, right? If that's the case, then if I were to apply for jap, and it's not impacted, as my major, would that actually increase my chances to get accepted? I figured that since sdsu takes the top from each major, it would be easier to get accepted into a non-impacted major. Can someone tell me if my reasoning is right? (Surely it can't be that simple) And explain how majors, if at all, affect the acceptance chances? Also, what if I got accepted with a jap major and wanted to change into a more impacted major like computer engineering, how would that work?
Thanks in advance

First off, dont use Jap. Type out Japanese. There is no need to be lazy and skip out on 5 letters when you have already typed out so much.
In regards to your initial question, it’s not that simple. As far as majors go they are all impacted. Even if you got into the “Jap” major and were looking to switch, you would still need to apply to whatever department’s major you wanted to switch to. Ultimately making it a big waste of time. You’re not the first one to think of that.

According the Cal State site, all majors including Undecided/Undeclared are impacted at SDSU.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read on the SDSU website that once a major is declared, you cannot change your mind if you’re a transfer student. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

And yes, @Impatient1‌ is correct: all SDSU majors are (unfortunately) impacted.

I was browsing the SDSU site again today and this is where I found the information about transfers changing their major a while back. It’s the bottom section titled: “A Note about Majors”.

Good luck to you!
