I don't post much on boards.. but what does 'bump' mean? Like when someone bumps someone else's post... what does it mean?

HI

Has anyone ever had an interview over the phone? What kinds of questions do they ask you, and how long does it last? Do they also want to talk to your parents? Has anyone else ever done an interview through a school administrator? What are those like? I'm scared, because I wasnt able to go to an interview for Taft, Andover, or Deerfield. They require and interview, so I might be doing them (off-campus of course) on Monday. Can any one give me insight as to what these are like> Thanks

esa, no comprende

wquong- My S did a few phone interviews for boarding schools. They went fine and he was accepted into some of the ones for which he did phone interviews. They ask you all the normal questions about your courses, activities etc. A lot of it depends on the personality of the interviewer, to be honest. Just be yourself and be relaxed. Tell them how sorry you are that you can't meet in person. You'll do fine.

Wquong. My son did a few interviews also over the phone, and was speaking with the interviewer for around 30 minutes. It seemed to go very well and I also spoke with both interviewers briefly. I think you need to be yourself and try to convey your thoughts and attitudes as positively as possible, because sometimes it is more difficult to let the real "you" shine through on the telephone. Good luck.

Golden, where did your S decide to apply?

tara - "bump" is a cute/nice way of saying "please respond to this message" or "i'm waiting for a response..."

The computerized scream was for the stress of applying to prep schools and keeping up with this website. Only 26 more days until decisions!!!

What "bump" does is moves the thread up to the top of the list of threads, since the "bump" is a new post. It will get more attention if it is at the top.

esa, chill my brother. You will be just fine. you'll then have some tuff choices.

I remember last year as a parent, I felt stress as well for my D.

OOOOOH! Urgent question.

As you might remember, I'm applying to Andover, Exeter, ang Groton. How long do I have to make my decisions? Assuming I get into more than one of them, I will have to decide which to attend, and make the final decision about wheter I really think boarding school is right for me- clearly not an easy decision.

April 10th

tj, each school will have two dates for accepted students to revist. this is before the april 10th deadline. Not to beat a dead horse, but it is always nice to write each school you declines a nice thanlyou note. OOP! i hope I didn't start something &()&)(&

hmph. Thank you- if I cant decide in a month, I'm hopeless.

I agree about the thank you notes- but who do you address them to? The Director of Admissions? Your interviewer? Both?

to the Admissions dept. you'll actually get a form that you fill out. whereever that form goes, that's where I would send the thankyou note.

In the bay area, we get a week, a few kids say yes to two if they can't decide, and pay two deposits....some pay for a second choice school, if they are wait listed at # 1 choice- with a deposit of $800 its quite a little chunk-

did I hear thank you note....don't get me started ; )

CGM, thank you notes are always in order. lol

can someone give some insight into the revisit day. Is it an all-day or all-day and stay the night in the dorms? How does the school pair you up with someone? Do parents also attend the revisit day? many questions...
