Oh, by the way, Prep review ranks are based on % of Ivy + MIT + Stanford matrculations

I missed one school that has be mentioned on this thread. #20 was Cate, oh, I guess Kent was mentioned at one time, they were #26. I think that covers most schools mentioned on this thread that made the top 30.

TY prepparent.

AHHHHHH 4 more days!!

Oh the agony!!

I'm definately sneaking onto my email at school to check my acceptance at Exeter.

I'm going to wait so that my dad and I will see it together. Just like how we started this whole app process...

jt, if they won't let you in as a junior can you see if will they reconsider your app as a sophomore?

nah, if they won't let me in as a Junior, then I ain't downgrading. Besides, I'm supposed to be applying for the Senior year anyways. I've technically already downgraded.

citygirlsmom- I applied to Harker School and the Castilleja School...both excellent prep schools in California...but they're not boarding schools.

lol x___infatuation, if I recalled correctly, some person on this CC board is applying to Exeter FROM Harker. Guess he's not content eh?

Hm...well I can sort of imagine why...a lot of people at Harker are discontent...at least that's what they said when I visited.
However...Harker's still my first choice...I'm rather stubborn lol.

This may have been said before since I skipped a lot of pages, so excuse me if this is repetitive, but... I'm a high school senior now, and I can't imagine having had to APPLY to high school! I never even thought about GPA and interviewing and extracurriculars in middle school. I mean, I had good grades and did interesting stuff, but I never worried about them! And having good match and safety high schools! Wow... most people in my town go to the same elementary school, middle school, and high school in the same town of 10,000 people. Good luck to all of you guys; it'll probably be an advantage four years down the road.

one of my dad's friend's wife had a friend who had a friend(god that sounds funny, i did it simply for effect)that went to exeter and was expelled after 2 mos. there in thhe 9th grade because they were with boys after hours, not even doing anything. but then again she went to andover.....

Hey. I'm the one from Harker who wants to go to Exeter. Some pros and cons of Harker:

Pros:
- Home to some of the brightest studest you'll ever find including the world's ONLY National Ap Scholar based on work through 10th grade. (took 9 ap exams through 10th grade & received 5s on all of them)
- newly remodeled, high tech facility
- has difficult entry test(can't confirm this since I took it in 2nd grade but I hear it isn't easy)
-fairly liberal dress code
-debate team is one of the top in the country
- 2nd highest SAT average in the nation: 1410
-performing arts is also a strong field
- lots of math-y/science-y asian students
- academics are similar to those of elite boarding schools on the east coast in terms of difficulty

Cons:
- terrible diversity: 80% of the kids there are asian.
-small campus(es)
-small student body
-athletics
-laptops are required
-too expensive for what it offers
-students don't have much to do...you see heaps of them strewn on the floor during and after school either doing hw or playing comp games on their laptops.
-few, if any, of the teachers have degrees from prestigious colleges
-housing prices in the silicon valley are ridiculous
-not many clubs
-not a lot of sports

I hope that helped!

Thank you darkfox! That was REALLY informational...the entrance exam for incoming 9th graders was a 7th grade level test...it's not really that hard lol...I scored in the 99% percentile for both reading and math and I suck at math. They're probably just really selective...but heck, I'll never know until after March 10th.
I'm really into the performing arts at Harker though...so I'm considering attending there despite the cons.

?? Last time I checked, unique teaching style and student success were measures of a teacher's capability, not alma mater.

then scratch that. srry. the teachers there are OK. i can't really say until I compare them to teachers form other prep schools

RaspberrySmoothie- I guess a teacher's alma mater doesn't really matter...but when you're laying down $24,000 a year for your education, you'd think your teachers were all graduates from Harvard or something instead of Cal State. But yeah, I actually love the teachers at Harker from what I've seen, the diploma doesn't really matter!

wow...80% Asian and cooped up study...that's kind of sad. I would understand why you'd want to come to Exeter...
