No, I'm not sure, but I'm more than likely gonna go.

Superior -
I just like Andover's "feel" better. It just seems to me that exeter is more studious and more elitist. Andover feels like more "fun" and exciting, and the people there seem nicer and more dynamic than exeter people. Also, a few people who used to go to my present school are going to andover right now (they chose andover over exeter), and they also say andover's "nicer" than exeter. And of course, Andover giving me $10,000 more FA than Exeter made my choice a little easier.

even though I applied exeter, I think that Andover seems a little better... don't know why. I wisH i applied andover.

It's just that statistically more have applied to Andover. The dress code is a huge plus. And the way its more liberal. It's a more popular choice, since its yield rate is 80-ish and Exeter's 60-ish.

Not to diss Exeter or anything. It's a fantabulous school.

I find it interesting that no admitee to Exeter has mentioned "Harkness Table" as one criterion to use in their evaluations. Having applied to Exeter do you even know what HT is? This should be your main reason for selecting Exeter, it was and is the best thing they offer at Exeter.

It's not 'special'. Many schools offer the Harkness table method of teaching or something to that effect now, such as Andover, SPS, Lawrenceville.. etc.

Your research skills must be remarkable. Have you attended class at any of these other schools?

hazmat...don't be sarcastic...
and I mean, you'd get a good education at ANY of these schools...after that, it's just the school atmosphere that matters.

These are all great schools and the "atmosphere" is only a part of the experience....I am thinking of atmosphere as the social experience not the academic. From my experience Exeter has a liberal social atmosphere, some would say to a fault.

HEY EVERYONE, BACK FROM SPRING BREAK! i got into deerfield, lawrenceville, and the hill. and im wait listed at choate and hotchkiss. i didnt get into groton :(, but its ok cause ive got three to pick from!!

Exeter was the first boarding school I learned about. It seemed like a dream to me and I never could have imagined myself going to such a great school. Then, I found out about Andover from a mom's friend whose son went there. Both schools were amazing, but I still prefered Exeter (better math program for one reason).

The funny thing is I did a better job on my Andover application than Exeter, probably because Andover was my second app. and I had learned what to do and what not to do. I'll receive Exeter's decision on Monday, but from what I'm hearing, Exeter is being pretty cheap this year with FA so I'll probably just go to Andover (they gave me a good deal of money). Plus, Andover is near Boston and I'd love to visit Boston sometime.

By the way, how do you'll pronounce Andover? An-dover or and-over?

welcome back and congrats!have you decided on lauecville yet?

Congratulations lawrencevillehopeful! And good luck coolblue...I pronounce is An-dover but I'm just guessing.

i think i pronounce it and-over. thanks ya'll!! i havent decided on lawrenceville, i think im letting myself get carried away in the prestige of deerfield...i need to put that asside and find MY best match

Well I work in Andover (not at the academy) and pronounce it And-over.

from someone who lives in MA, andover is pronounced AN-do-ver, with the stress on the AN, not AND-o-ver. My mom has always pronounced Andover an-DO-ver, and nobody would understand what she's talking about.

Are you planning to compete in the IMO? What math level are you striving for? Exeter rocks the Math world with Mr. Feng!!! The department and program are amazing.

Blergh @ all the people with enthusiasm for math...

I'm pretty new to math, but I hope to make the USAMO by next year
Hazmat, I'm guessing you go to or did go to Exeter?

Saint Andrews - Accepted
Gunnery - Accepted
Williston-NH - Accepted
Cheshire - Accepted
Cushing - rejected
Brewster- rejected - school said it wasn't appropriate, he didn't need that kind of support.

Surprise: Chose The Gunnery for tenth grade. My older son went to Buckingham Browne and Nichols in Cambridge, MA. His college advisor is now head of the multicultural program at Andover and told us that being in a pressure cooker school since 5th grade ruined his high school years. He even chose Tulane, over Bates, Colby, Colgate, NYU, JHU and Cornell. He is a firm believer you get from ANY school what you put in.

I did go and have 2 good friends who did USAMO + other programs.
