Son is applying into Environmental Science at UT Austin and Texas A&M. 32 ACT Composite (29 math). 2040 SAT (670 math). He is an auto-admit Texas resident, top 1%, average school. Lots of AP's with excellent GPA. Average extracurricular activities. I've heard UT only accepts 50 students into environmental science per year. Will his math scores be high enough to get into environmental science at UT Austin and Texas A&M? He is auto-admit for the university, but not for the major of his choice.

At UT they say the minimum score is 600, so technically it should be fine. A&M should be a little easier. It’ll probably also depend on his course load/GPA which you say is excellent so no worries there. I know a girl majoring in EnviSci at A&M and she wasn’t that impressive, so your son shouldn’t be super worried about A&M. UT is it’s own beast, and yes they do only admit around 50. Good luck to him!
