Topic C: optional (unsaved)

There may be personal information that you want considered as part of your admissions application. Write an essay describing that information. You might include exceptional hardships, challenges, or opportunities that have shaped or impacted your abilities or academic credentials, personal responsibilities, exceptional achievements or talents, educational goals, or ways in which you might contribute to an institution committed to creating a diverse learning environment.

Do you think it would be alright to use my EC essay from the common app for this? It's only about 140 words, though.

How long should this be anyway. In fact, how long should any of the Texas essays be?

It says 120 lines with 80 characters per line. What kind of word count could I estimate to get out of that?

Also, would it be alright to use my MIT essay about how my background shaped me.

Neither focuses on a "hardship" but the EC one address academic credentials and the other somewhat explains how I think.

Does UT use the common app? If so, you can't. But, if they don't ue it, you can use it. Just make sure it really shows your identity. As long as your MIT one is tailored to UT, it's okay.

Limit wise, that should probably fit. You might have to cut it down to a 100 words maybe?

No, UT uses ApplyTexas (note the title of the thread) and what would need to be 100 words?

OP, have you been able to get into the online version of the app for Fall 2009? My son couldn't and I was told it wouldn't be available until Sept. 1st.

I was told August 1st and on my application I was able to select Fall 2009. Has he tried it since August 1st? It is ApplyTexas for UT Austin that he is trying to use, correct?

To update my questions:

Which would be better to talk about for option C, an EC or an experience that has influenced me?

How long should these essays be?
