Appointee Letter Question

My school is asking for information for publication in regard to my appointment. The appointee letter says “This appointment is awarded to only about 1500 of our 9,200 applicants.” Are the 9,200 applicants those who are qualified and have nominations or do they only get 9,200 applications? Just curious because I thought there were more applicants than that.

I believe that there are 9,200 people who actually complete the application. I know that 9,200 don't get nominations. I'm not positive though. Congrats on the appointment.

Thanks for the congrats.

I thought since each MOC can nominate 10 people for each opening that there would be more.

Hold on, I've seen something with these numbers, let me see if I can dig it up.

Alright, I found it way faster than I thought I would.

CLASS OF 2012 PROFILE

Applicants – 9001
Candidate Pool – 6591
Qualified Candidates – 2066
Offers of Admission – 1642
Total Admitted – 1348

Air Force Academy - News

Ok, so I think that "Candidates" are the ones who get nominations. I'm not sure if it is 6591 or 2066, but I would think it is 6591.

yeah its the 6569(or whatever the number you provided was) that get nominated

Does that mean its possible to get nominated but not be qualified?

vullnnoid - yes, it is possible to get a nomination and not be qualified.

A lot more show interest in the academy, but don't get past the pre-candidate stage, so the number who start the application process is actually a lot higher, but I am not sure of what exactly it is

What is the status on the online app page for a candidate who is not qualified?

It depends. If you have a Nom, then you are put up to Candidate regardless of if you are qualified. But if you become a Candidate before you get a Nom, then you are qualified. Ambiguous I know but read all the little fine print on the status page and it explains it all under the main section.

Thanks F22 and yes its ambiguous to say the least.

Of course :) Ya i had the same problem recently so i looked it all up on there after reading all the fine print talking about the differences between candidate and prospect and such.
