Appointee Orientation

Just returned from Dinner at Ted's. It was a great time! I'll post some pictures when we return. Everyone really liked the rest.though it looks like you're going Italian.more later...

Looking forward to it!

Sorry that I missed the 4/09 CC meeting. My flight to C. Springs was canceled; therefore, I was stranded at Denver for 6 hours (I've pretty much been everywhere in the airport). However, I thought the orientation was great and I'm 100% sure that I want to attended the academy (BCT aint got nothing on me :) ) . Looks like I'll have to meet you all later, if you are smart enough to accept the appointment.

I have a question about orientation for appointees or their parents who went. I was just wondering if the $35 and $20 fees for the appointees and our guests were just paid in cash and also if the appointee pays for his guests or when the guests come they pay it themselves.

Sorry I missed the dinner...our flight didn't get in until late that night. Cant wait to see all of you RTB's on Iday. :-D

af06- I paid in cash but I thought I saw someone write a check. Not sure. They don't care who pays (second part of your question) but I guess you may be asking about what they would do if you arrive at a different time than your guest. I think whoever gets there first should pay for both since that's when you register, and pick up an extra nametag for the second person. Otherwise, i'm not sure what your asking! Guy and Solomax, we missed you :( but hope you enjoyed the experience!

What did yall pack for clothes to go? Did you take work-out clothes, what did you have for Tuesday, etc.?

Was the price of the boots the price given in the orientation guide or has it changed? Also, was it easy to get a money order there for them?

They sent out an e-mail with the price, and that's what I made my cashier's check for.

Hornetguy -- you may want to have some workout type clothes in case you have an opportunity to participate in an intramural type activity -- some of the appointees did that.

Falcon -- the price for the boots(I think it was $96.50 but I can't remember exactly) is given to you in a flier in your orientation package when you register. On Monday, stop by the Academy Bank table outside the auditorium where you will be "briefed" and give them cash -- they can then give you the money order. You DON't need to prepare a money order in advance. Then make sure the appointee takes the money order with them overnight so that he/she has it on Tuesday when they pick up the boots. Tip: Bring boot socks so you don't have to carry them; start wearing them immediately! And don't forget the sole inserts -- they really make a difference. Also, make sure you bring a sleeping bag with you.

Are boot socks avaliable there or not?

Yeah.... If I can remember correctly (I have short-term memory.... probably not good for knowledge tests) in the Instructions to Appointees, it says that boots and boot socks are issued upon arrival.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure they're issued.

Falcon--- boots are 97.60

While both are available at I day, you do NOT want to go in without having broken them in. I heard this many times. Buy some boot socks at Walmart (if you can't get them at them Academy during orientation), get the boots at orientation, break them in between now and Iday, and you're good to go!

Whoa! Didn't my dad give you a ride at the Academy? Wow! I actually met you without knowing it! lol! Well, I had a great time at the Academy and I'm looking forward to it on June 29

Yes, H, I met your Dad and he's a great guy! We joked because we got a little lost on the Academy grounds and decided that we wouldn't have been navigator qualified!! He is certainly very proud of you (no surprise) and got the sense that you really were looking forward to the whole experience.

AFDAD...you sound like the guests have their tour on Monday. On the guest itinerary it said the tour was on the 11,18, and 25 (Tuesday) though. That's why I asked who payed for the guests because the itinerary I received said guests were touring on Tuesday. If someone can answer this for me quickly I'd appreciate it. Currently I am sitting at the Drury Inn computer in Colorado Springs overlooking the Academy...wow, what a view:)

No sorry, the tour is on TUESDAY. You are all together on Monday listening to briefings etc. The tour for the parents occur while you are sitting in classes with your host on Tuesday.

So guests are really attending on both days with the bulk of the info on Monday. The Tuesday tour is new this year and I thought it was very worthwhile. Tip: there are better "souvenirs" in the welcome center than there are in the field house -- where you register.

The new BDUs---- are they being issued this BCT? Or was this not brought up.

They have a suede boot and the t'shirt has a large screen print of "Air Force" on the back. It reminds me of "Prisoner"
