In our community an Academy appointment is worthy of a short article in the local newspaper. Does anyone know if the packet contains a standard press release like you see when someone completes boot camp?

It does. You'll get a hometown press release form and then another one when you graduate.

Thank you. I've been hoping that would be the case.

I didn't get one in my appt. package (maybe it comes in the permit to report papers?), so my school sent one out on their own.

Nor did we. But the local paper ran the info we shared. Made the front page, too! :p

Which undoubtedly reveals more about our local yokel ragsheet than it does about the newsworthiness of the event!

Still, it made for button-bustin' for the Mid's old man  and his maternal grandfather noting, "What a boy! Especially considering that no-good his mother married." :( The aritcle's final paragraph noted: "Congressman Upright noted of his appointee, 'He's a chip off of his father, I'm afraid.' His father is scheduled for parole and release in 2011. The family is excited and hopeful he'll be allowed onto The Yard for his son's graduation ceremonies at the Academy." :)

Most papers are happy to run such good news, really. Congratulations!

The Public Affairs Office coordinates the press releases and the forms are filled out during plebe summer. They are not sent in the permit-to-report package.
