Appointments thus far

It is easy to lose track of the many appointments that have already been received. I thought that if you don’t mind, you could post here, and as each new appointment is received, copy the original list and paste to the reply, adding yours to the bottom. This is similar to another academy sight.
Thanks for sharing and good luck

Hi, I'm new to the forums, but I have been reading many posts throughout this site for about a month. I think it would be nice if the appointees could post their stats (GPA, SATs, etc) because I have applied to the AFA and have not received any word yet. I'm hoping to get into the prep school, because I'm not a very competitive candidate. If you have received an offer to the prep school could you please post your stats also? Thanks.

For those of us who want to post stats, you can use this form. Just copy/paste it into the comment box and fill it out. Feel free to be as detailed or as general as you want, this is just a guide so things stay organized. :)

Councelor recs: She is usually a good writer - the rec was 2 pages long but we never get to read it.

major strength/weakness: Strength - head work and problem solving. Weakness - not quite physically there yet.... working my ass on it though. I WILL BE READY BY JUNE 30th

why you think you received an appointment/anything else left out: Umm... I think they liked the CAP stuff because it's leadership lab time. Other than that, I was lucky.

Is it just me or does this whole posting stats thing seem pretty braggy?

Well, stats are stats, right? The only reason I used a form like this is because all the other boards for all the other colleges use forms more or less exactly like this... I figured, why not for USAFA's board? Besides, Alex K DID ask us to post our stats. I'm sure he was just curious.

And it's not like any of us are going to have awful stats, I mean, we did get into USAFA, which is an uberfabulous school, all things considered.

Stats:

SAT or ACT, highest combined: 1570 (no act)

GPA: 4.3ish weighted (no unweighted)

Rank: no rank

PAE scores: passed above average in all categories except basketball throw

your nomination source: congressional

Summer Seminar attendence (y/n): yes

med status (PPQ, NavQ, ComissionQ, etc): NavQ

Other stats: APs, some college classes, rigorous cirriculum, nomination from competetive congressional district

Subjective:

Essays: good (I don't know if they were great, though), I wrote pretty decent answers to the prompts, though

Hook (if any): none for me (btw, "hook" is an outside factor that would be an attention grabber to the adcom, example would be "dad is commander in chief of the AF")

Teacher recs: I know two of them were probably pretty glowing (pre-calc teacher and English teacher), but one was probably just average (chem teacher)

Councelor recs: definately very good, he likes me :)

ALO interview/recs: I think pretty good- ALO seems to like me, but our actual interview was pretty informal

SS element leader recs (if you know or can guess): I don't know for sure, but I assume decent. I was on time, not a jerk, passed PAE there, etc.

ECs/leadership/sports/etc: 2 years waterpolo, 2 years track, year round swimming; 2 years jazz band; 2 years president volunteer club (we go have free concerts for senior citizens); 4+ years Junior Classical League (Latin club); JSA on and off

major awards won: lots of Latin exam/competition awards from JCL, a few school awards (Honor Roll, Social Studies award, etc), quite a few piano awards from state competitions, random acheivment awards- basically a good collection of stuff, but nothing huge or incredible (like eagle scout or something international)

Location/Person:

State or Country: CA

School Type: large, competetive public

Ethnicity: white

Gender: female

major strength/weakness: weakness was probably the fact that I applied to no other academies or ROTC programs and don't want to fly (wow, those two things were really annoying at my congressional interviews.. x_x;; ), strengths were probably my well roundedness and my good pae scores

why you think you received an appointment/anything else left out: that's me in a nutshell, so... no, nothing else

the stats are a little wordy and I think you all know what it takes to get into the AFA - (it is no big secret - the class of 2008 stats are on line) - it may be bettter just to be a bit breif and have a list of future classmates

Vampielinred,
First, congratulations on your appointment to USAFA:) While it’s quite reasonable that a service academy candidate might only be interested in one branch of the military, how did you explain the fact that you want to be Air Force officer but didn’t apply to AFROTC programs in case you didn’t get an appointment to USAFA?

Doc Franc, any comment on this issue?

I also think you should streamline the appointment list and drop or PM the STATS. Class profiles, SA websites, and catalogs provide that information.

wstcoastmom

too lazy to put stats...

amdandrew- appointment on 3/21/05

Congratulations amdandrew on your appointment! I disagree with you about being too lazy to put stats... if you have just successfully competed for an appointment to the academy I'm sure that your involvement in your schoolwork, sports and community have not ceased to exist just because of your appointment offer. It is better to focus on finishing High School successfully and enjoy the unique opportunity to acquaint oneself with future classmates rather than measure up against each other

offhegs- yes the stats can be a little wordy, but I was just responding to AlexK's request. Sometimes actually seeing stats of people who have gotten in is helpful. shrugs Like I said before, I was just adopting the form that the majority of the other boards use for posting stats.

Amandrew- CONGRATULATIONS on your appointment! That's great, another 09er, whee! I'm always interested in chatting with other future classmates, so feel free to IM me any time. :)

Wstcoastmom- For me personally, I just felt the academy was the way to go, and I stated it in my board interviews as the desire to do "all or nothing." I just felt that I wouldn't be the kind of officer I wanted to be in AFROTC; certainly it is a great program and it produces a lot of wonderful officers, but for some reason, I just wasn't drawn to that program as much as I was to USAFA. I suppose I should have applied to AFROTC just so I didn't "look bad," but knowing that I wouldn't accept the offer (had I received it) made me feel really rotten, since I'd be wasting the spot of somebody who wanted it badly.

amdandrew what state do you represent? We have quite a spread out crowd

I agree with offhegz. I'm just trying to see other people's breif stats in order to compare myself to other appointees. I was just seeing if there is any hope for me, and I am not surprised there isn't thus far. Thanks for the wordy responses though.
