In our area, the BGO presents the certificate in the blue cover during the senior awards ceremony in the spring. He really does a great job. He talks about the difficult road to an appointment and all that is involved in contrast to the standard college application process. He also said the value of the appointment that my son earned was well in excess of $250,000. It was definitely a very nice moment for my son. I know that he certainly appreciated the fact that his BGO took the time to make the presentation.

I think it is up to the BGO and the regional BGO officer in charge.
My son received his official certificate from his BGO during the Senior Awards Assembly, and his speech was similar to the one mentioned by nyminute. At the same Assembly, the WP appointee received his official certificate as well. It was a moving presentation, especially back-to-back.
At a neighboring school, the certificate of appointment was awarded at the graduation ceremony, accompanied by a speech. I think the process depends on the coordinated efforts of the BGO and school.

Does anyone know about the Foundation program....I was offered sponorship to New Mexico Military, but I'm not sure exactly sure on what my chances are of getting into navy the next year on foundation sponorship....or this year( i have to nominations). I have an appointment to West Point, but my heart is really set on Navy.

As long as you do well during the prep school year, you are assured a spot in the USNA class the following year. It is a great way to gain admission to USNA if that is what your heart is set on. Every year several students that are offered Foundation sponsorships ultimately end up with a direct appointment and do not do the prep school year. As they indicate in their communications, it is insurance in the event that you do not receive an appointment this year. Remember, there are many applicants with nominations that do not receive appointments.

Hey, I was just wondering....Do you think that appointments come in waves? It seems that a few people were admitted in December and appointments are coming out now. As for me, my application was completed in October, but my nomination was sent in the beginning of January. I also received a "qualified" letter a few months ago. I don't really know what it means in terms of my chances, but does anyone think I have a chance of hearing soon?

P.S. - Anyone specifically from New York heard anything (more specifically Long Island)?

Hi ~ We are from NY too not LI area though. My son completed his application in June and it posted to the web in July. He had his interview in late September and recieved a qualified letter in October. He needs a vision waiver. His nomination posted to the web a week or so ago. We know of at least one or two in NY with Appointments already but their nominations are Presidential or they had LOA's. We aren't expecting to hear for a long time. Many told us late April or May. Keep the faith. It does appear from this site that some are hearing early. Please post if you hear anything and best of luck! JM

ya im from new york, but upstate. i completed my application in august and recieved a presidential nomination in november. i also needed an eye waiver but i recieved my appointment mid december.

flynavy05--I received a Foundation sponsership to NMMI as well! I'm triple Q'd at West Point, and it looks is if I may receive a LOA soon. My heart is set on Navy though.

To make matters a bit more difficult, my RD is being replaced by someone new. This person doesn't know me, and now I have to start the process all over again with her. But, again, my heart is set on Navy!

I think if you go Foundation, you'll still need a nomination next year. If Navy turns me down (my grades are good, and SAT's came up since they last reviewed my file), it will be a tough decision to spend a year at Foundation rather than go direct admission to West Point.

Doug

Doug- I know what you mean...I have an appointment to West Point, But I am yet to recieve my triple Q'd letter from Navy (but i got an CVW invite and have two nominations...so I'm confused...I think it is because I need an eye wavier) But I think it really is going to come down to what I want to do after the academy...I really want to be a Naval Officer, I have never really pictured myself as a Army Officer, and I'm honored to get the appointment to WP, but I think the extra year will only serve in my favor.

My squad leader at SS was in the Foundation, so I talked to him, he said that even if it wasnt exactly what he wanted, he had a much better time Pleb year then others because he had the same classes at his foundation school, that he was taking at the academy, he went to Hargrave, (another military academy) for the extra year he was in amazing shape which make pleb summer a snap.

But to make things harder a kid at my school is being recurited by Navy to play tennis, he never really considered the academy and didn't try for any nominations, but it looks like he is getting in, just because of tennis, which really makes me mad, but I know that Navy is the place for me.....so I'm think I'll do the extra year if not offered a direct appointment...I've been working to hard and long for this to go somewhere that I really don't want to go.......besides NMMI doesn't look that bad.......the academics are good , plus the dorms look nice, I was suprised to see they had cable TV in the rooms.

FlyNavy05... do you have a congressional and senatorial nomination? When did you hear about the senatorial nomination if you have one? We're still waiting to hear. Thanks!

Juniormom- I have both a congressional and sentorial nomination....i heard about both a few days before christmas.

FlyNavy05,
Hey, go easy on tennis players--that's my daughter's sport and she started dragging a racquet around the courts when she was four! WP has a varsity women's team, but USNA women's tennis is at the club level. Like you, she dreams of attending USNA. But I know how you feel because we're a bit jealous of recruited athletes at this point too!
Sounds like you're in a good position for USNA and highly qualified if you've already received an appointment to WP. Others on this forum can probably give you some information on the eye waiver. Have you reviewed the information in the USNA catalogue, talked to your BGO or checked with your regional director?
It's paradoxical to say "Be patient," because the attributes that get candidates appointments probably don't include PATIENCE...
