Appointment

Today in the mail I received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy for the class of 2010. So I guess it's official that the first few appointments are beginning to trickle down out of the big number-crunching machine at the admissions office...

I'm planning on visiting the yard for the CVW on 28 Jan; anyone else going to be there also?

Good luck to everybody finishing up the admissions process.

this is so cool! Can you fill us in on whatEXACTLY the appointment letter says.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

congratulations....you've received a holy piece of paper that about 12,000 kids in the united states covet. frame it. i know i would.

heh...28 Jan....right when im set to take the SAT.

yeah man, what did the appointment letter say? always wanted to know.

I signed up for Jan. 28 weekend. Congrats fiterace, hope to join you soon! =)

fiterace87: congratulations!

Way to go fiterace87! Great news! Please post the "Congratulations, we would like to offer you an appointment..... wording. We'd all like to see. I guess it goes without saying, but are you accepting the appointment? Do you have a presidential Nomination or an MCO?

WAY TO GO fiterace87!!!!!!!!!! Look out world! There's a great kid coming!!!!! Now, repeat after me....GO NAVY BEAT ARMY! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!

Well, I won't be too specific about the wording (It'll be more of a surprise when y'all get yours...) but it just says what a person would expect it to say "...been offered an appointment...contingent upon continued good grades, morals..." and so on. It's just a regular informative letter, but a very important one enclosed in a very nicely presented dark-colored folder.

Since no MOC review Boards have yet met, I suppose it is fairly obvious that I got in through the presidential nomination category (just in case you're saying "this kid's pulling my leg; no MOC review boards have met...").

Like I said, I'm going to visit Annapolis in January and then be able to make a good, informed decision from there. I'll be sure to keep y'all posted as to what happens. Thanks for the kind words.

Good Luck everybody!

~Dan

PS: I always love Jamzmom's enthusiasm ;-)

CVW? Fill me in... For juniors also? or just seniors... Is it the same as CWV?

rock,

CVW is for seniors; after all, it's Candidate Visiting Weekend. Juniors cannot be candidates for USNA; well, they can, but you know what I mean.

I just received a letter of acceptance to NAPS yesterday. I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork and send it back, but the bottom line is I'M IN!!!

ahhh....the stinging jealousy....

wow i didn't even do my interview for a congressional nomination yet, i don't know how you people get accepted so early

some lucky people got interviews over early or got presidential nominations...our first interview in central MO is next week, so you're not the only one who hasn't started yet, bestwestin!

bestwestin
Here in SoCA - our Congressman's interview isn't until Dec. 17th - he doesn't notify people until Jan 17th - and USNA won't hear until Jan 30th ....so even with an LOA on our end - we still have alot of waiting ahead.

I think the perk for kids with parents on active duty- meaning their access to a Presidential nomination and early appointments - is pretty awesome for them and something families with bright kids interested in military life should consider when they are thinking about a military career.

the letter you got was not an appointment. it was an LOA. your acceptance is contingent upon a few other factors. it comes early for the strong candidates but u still need to pass CFA, DoDMERB, nomination, and keep grades up. about 200 LOAs are given out yearly and ppl w/ them usually get in unless they fail the medical.

Some appointments have gone out....That is a fact!

yes some, mostly people with LOAs and presidential nominations (military parent) or people with really a early nomination process.

Cool! A current mid - what class are you in? What company are you in? Where are you from?

As I type my daughter is somewhere far far away from me here in So Cal deep in the Yard at her CWV....

She's not the only one excited about all this stuff, that's for sure.

Go Navy! Beat Temple! Beat Army!

It seems like just yesterday that I was going through this whole process with my Mid. It is such an exciting time and one filled with anxiety. The one thing that you can count on is that the timing of appointments and communications coming from USNA almost never meet your expectations. The process takes so much longer than one would think that it should. It is especially hard when candidates see their classmates in school hearing from their civilian colleges in December and the early spring. In our case, the appointment came in April and it was later than the cutoff date for most of the notifications. Others heard in May and even June. In 2004, 9 candidates were called AFTER I-Day and given spots when a number did not show or qualify on that day. They played catch up with the other Plebes for the first few weeks. These students never gave up their dreams and neither should anyone that really wants to attend USNA. It is important to stay in touch with your B&G officer and your representative in the admissions office. Send them any new information on yourself, awards, athletic accomplishments, etc. My Mid's B&G officer said that they had never seen a candidate want it more or work harder for their appointment. You need to continually demonstrate your strong desire to be at USNA. Good luck to everyone---it can be a long road, but the journey is worth it. As a parent, we have enjoyed every minute that we have spent on the Yard and experiencing the wonderful environment there. We will be there tomorrow, shivering and cheering on the Blue & Gold. GO NAVY!
