so basically i applied to pomona college and they need the school report. I asked my counselor to do this before christmas break. However, i have checked the status of my app and its missing. Last month i gave her the midyear report and that's missing too. Apparently my counselor has this problem for many students. How would I approach her and address the problem? Thanks

Sounds like your counselor isn't the greatest. BUT, if you want to go to Ponoma College, you're gonna have to tell her your stuff is missing! You need that stuff... hound her until she fixes the problem.

After all, it's better for her to think you're a nag than for you to get rejected from Ponoma because your application isn't complete.

This is what happened with me with like 5 of my colleges.
I went straight up to him and asked him to send them again. He hates even looking at me (because I've been the biggest nagger to him, the WHOLE of last year) but I just faced up to my fears (he's pretty scary) and just said, "xyz colleges havent recieved my transcript, can you send them again?"
he said, "but I sent them!" and I said, "but they cant find it. can you just send them again please?" and he just grumpily (is that a word) said, "sigh ok"

Add this to the mix. Take an envelope to your local post office and have it set up for overnight delivery with proof of delivery/tracking. Then give the envelope to your counselor with an explanation that you are concerned that the college must have lost the reports in the shuffle and now you have a pressing deadline; therefore you are giving your counselor the "overnight" envelope. You won't be directly accusing him of screwing up but he will also know that there is demonstrable accountability. It'll cost a few dollars but if you really want this college, this may turn the trick to get your counselor to pay attention.

I second the above. Although I am sure that you are very annoyed (take a number!), now is not the time to be splitting hairs with your counselor. Make it as easy as possible for your counselor to get the reports out, and don't worry too much--colleges understand that counselors are...not perfect.

Bluntly. "I'm sorry to bother you, but Ponoma hasn't recieved (list). Is there any way you could possibly send it to them today? It's the only thing (or things) missing from my application, and I'd love for them to be able to consider my application."

When they get it in a timely manner: "I heard Ponoma got my application, thank you so much, I really appreciate that."
