My Counselor and Reports

She still hasn’t sent my Mid-Year reports even though I’ve talked to her twice about it in person and emailed her once. My friends, who have other counselors, all had their mid-year reports sent 2 weeks ago no questions asked when grades were finalized for the first semester. What am I supposed to do? Will colleges penalize my application because my reports are late? I am at my wits end about this because she will not send my reports. I don’t get it! Is it really that hard? She is driving me insane, and I already know her Counselor Recommendation was absolute utter garbage because she’s new and hardly knows who I am anyway.

I’d ask your parents to call the guidance counselor. If it isn’t done in a few days have them call the head of guidance. I don’t think it will hurt you if they come in a little late, but she should do her job.

Not only should the parents call the guidance counselor, but they should email the principal and head of the guidance department too and ask them to get things moving.

Schools have until mid feb to send mid year reports. Just give her a gentle reminder

@sybbie719 I’ve given her 4 reminders now as I sent her another email this morning (no response of course). Mid-Year reports for us were finalized 3 weeks ago today, and all the friends I’ve talked to have had theirs sent, albeit they have different counselors. One of my talks with her was right before Christmas Break after 1st Semester ended, so I can understand if she forgot about that, however, the rest have all been these past 3 weeks. I’ve been respectful in all our chats/e-mails, even if I wasn’t, though, it shouldn’t matter. It’s her job, she gets paid to do this. I know I sound mean, which I am to be fair, but I can’t take the stress anymore. It’s eating me alive.

@Jleto18 Time to get your parents involved. 4 reminders from a 17 or 18 year old is enough for an adult to do what she knows needs to be done for not only you but the other seniors. Have your parents call. If they must leave a message then send an email a follow up on the message left and if no response in 2 days your parents should go in or ask for a meeting with her. If there is an issue she should tell you but maybe she’ll tell your parents instead

You cannot send a mid year report before the semester/term is completed. If you told her before Christmas, it means nothing if the term was not over.

When did your semester end? Most schools allow until mid February for midterms to be completed. In NYC, which is the largest public school system in the country, the new term starts tomorrow. Mid years will not be sent out until sometime next week. Even then colleges will allow GCs a professional courtesy and won’t hold it against the student if it comes after the 15.
I know that i will not personally entertain a call from a parent asking about a midyear report when I know that it is not late. Since grades were just finalized Thursday night I sent an email out as a gentle reminder to GC upload transcripts for midyear reports.

@sybbie719 It was on the last day before we left for break, which was right after our last grades, mid-terms. It was more of an inquiry at that point. Our grades were officially finalized, as in report cards went out for Semester 1 and our student portal said our grades for the first semester were complete, January 7th. Sorry about being rude, I’m just getting stressed out about this whole thing. I just want it to be finalized and ready to go, and it’s killing me. Thank you for your advice, it’s much appreciated.
