Hey guys.

So many of the college supplement essays I've written are about my passion for physics and science, because I am in LOVE with that field.

But for the common app essay, which I haven't written yet, I've had this idea for a while: write about Batman!

It might sound slightly ridiculous, but I have been fascinated with this character for a very long time. He represents the pinnacle of human ability: he uses his diverse and sharp intellect AND his almost superhuman strength and speed to fight for probably the most noble cause imaginable. And he does all this through incredible adversity, and is propelled forward by tragedy...

I'll stop now, but he really is an inspirational figure to me. The thing is, is he a good enough topic to write the common app about? Even if I'm applying to Ivy's and the like?

Thanks for your time!

Virtually any topic can make for a personal, detailed, honest and revealing essay. In fact, last year I read an excellent essay on another such fictional character.

I trust that this essay, should you decide to try it, will in fact be mainly about you and not mainly about Batman.

Yes, I shall try to curtail my enthusiasm, and focus on how I am similar to/have been shaped by the character.

Thanks for the advice.
