Appropriate?

I am thinking of writing a college essay on not flushing the toilet in my house for a few months because of unrealistic water fees. I am also going to try to tie this in with being economical, aware of circumstances (since my brother and I sleep in the same room, flushing the toilet during the night would cause him to wake up), and willing to sacrifice (since looking at pee in the bathroom every time isn’t pretty). However, I am afraid that this might be seen as inappropriate. It seems somewhat unique but I don’t want to blow out with a ridiculous essay). What do you guys think? (Assume that my gpa and sats are quite above average)

Yeah don’t do it. Trust me.

Ah… I think the question is, what does this reveal about you that makes colleges want to have you on campus? At first glance, I don’t see lot of potential there. I just think an admissions officer might get caught up in the sensory issues (it must STINK), and cleaning it must be ugly (which might not be your job…). Maybe you should keep brainstorming.

This is actually impressive. You, I mean. Absurd idea, but worded perfectly as to leave the average reader in doubt whether you’re serious or not. It says it’s your first post, but it’s obvious you’re experienced.

Oh and, flush the toilet man. If it’s yellow, it’s ok to let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.

I was at a Yale meeting once and I think this is what they told. An applicant came through with amazing credentials. They were ready to accept until the admissions read the essay and they rejected. Why…the essay was about bathroom/peeing. The admissions thought it was disgusting and turned them away. To be on the safe side I wouldn’t do it. They were trying to make a point that the essay matters a lot.

The concept is intriguing. Can you make it about taking exceptionally short/cold showers instead?

The essay matters a lot, but it does not have to be about something big and impressive – a great essay can turn on something very small. But stay away from bodily functions, that is not a winner.

You only raise risk when the odds aren’t in your favor to begin with. If your stats were above average for this school, then that is not the case, so don’t raise risk by writing this essay.

As a general rule in life: if you’re not sure whether it’s inappropriate, it probably is.

It may sound unique and exciting, but do you think anyone would actually wanna read why you didn’t flush your toilet? I seriously doubt that. You can write an essay about your efforts to save effort by not just focusing on toilet but the overall wastage of water we do in our day to day lives. I’m pretty sure this is not a serious post, guys.
