Approx. what ratings do you think I would receive?

I saw some of the documents for the Harvard lawsuit, but was unsure of how to interpret their scales for the various ratings. If you guys could give me a rough idea of where I’m at, that would be great.

Demographics: Asian (Korean), SoCal, Competitive School, Upper-middle class

GPA unweighted: 3.80 UW, 4.2 W (my biggest worry)

ACT: 35 (35 E, 36 M, 35 R, 35 S)

SAT subject tests: 800 on Chem + Math 2

Awards: USACO Platinum, Google Code Jam Qualifying Rd, several hackathon/science fair awards

Main ECs:

App dev startup founder (~200k revenue)

Research in AI/ML. Published in mid impact factor journal and presenting at conference (abstract will be published in other journal). No mentor/external help.

Founder of nonprofit teaching kids how to code in local impoverished areas. Taught over 500 kids and raised 10,000$ in funding. Initially ran all operations myself, before hiring some of my friends who were interested.

Data Science Internship @ local state university

ML Internship (paid) @ local startup

Internship @ NASA JPL (LA)

Varsity Volleyball + Club Volleyball 3 years

I have other ECs like the generic volunteering, but those are my main ones.

Harvard applicants are assigned ratings in approximately 14 categories including academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, athletic prowess, strength of character, up to four teacher recommendations, counselor recommendations, a “personal” and “overall” rating by staff, and a “personal” and “overall” rating by an alumnus, according to the documents filed by SFFA.

The ratings range from 1 to 6, with 1 marking the highest possible score. Admissions officers can also add a “+” or “-” to a score to distinguish stronger candidates from weaker ones.

Harvard’s filing states that admissions officers review candidates’ “humor, sensitivity, grit, leadership, integrity, helpfulness, courage, kindness and many other qualities” when determining the personal rating.

A “1” score denotes “outstanding” personal skills; “2” denotes “very strong” skills; “3” denotes “generally positive” skills; “4” means a candidate is “bland or somewhat negative or immature”; “5” means the candidate possesses "questionable personal qualities”; and “6” points to “worrisome personal qualities.

Based upon the above, you should be able to rate yourself, and rate what you think your teachers, GC and interviewer might have said about you. It’s really not necessary to solicit the opinions of others when SO many categories are rated.

Based on the plethora of Chance Me threads containing the line “Recs - 10/10 - My teachers love me,” I would beg to differ. Or at least say that I doubt that most will be able to accurately and objectively rate oneself.

^^ Agree. Given that Harvard rates a student in many more categories than just academics, test scores and EC’s, it’s not possible for anyone looking at the OP’s post to give an accurate rating. Which, IMHO, is the problem with all “Chance me” threads.
