How do universities know how many AP courses/Honours courses are available at your school? At my school there are only 6 AP courses available, and around 8 honours courses available, but I didn't think of adding that to my commonapplication. Will the counsellor let the universities know of this? or should I send them an email?

YES! Your guidance counselors submit a lot of school data like courses available and such to help colleges weight out different applicants. A 4.0 GPA from one school can be equal to a 3.6GPA in another while one school offers 20AP classes and the other offers 2AP classes. This allows the colleges to look at students more fairly, so yeah, they will know.

thank you so much! I just talked to my counsellor and found that out as well. I have another question though, it appears that there are 8 AP courses available at my school. However, I only took 5, which were AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Physics, AP Calc, and AP English. I did not take AP Psychology, AP French nor AP Art. How will that affect my application?

Not much at all, it isn’t the point to cram your schedule with AP classes, it is to get the most rigor possible without overwhelming yourself or affecting EC’s etc…Colleges don’t look at the number of AP’s you took, but just the rigor of the courses you took. Taking multiple AP’s for core classes is very favored over taking elective type AP’s that you have no interest in.
