I am a bit confused. I got a 1 on my AP World History exam, my first AP test. I plan to take many APs in the future but now I don't know what to do. My grade in World History was a B and a C. For example, I plan to take US History. Should I take regular?

Will getting Bs and Cs and 1s and 2s have negative consequences on college admissions? In addition, will my low GPA with APs have a negative effect on college admissions?

Carledwards, you do not have to send your APs to colleges if you don't want to and so colleges will not take into consideration your APs if it is not the scores you wanted. Grade letters can affect GPAs and it all depends on what type of grades you want versus the challenge of harder classes.

i think it depends on your teacher. i like to take regular classes at my school & self-study for aps b/c the teachers at my school are kinda sketchy. its not worth it to get a good grade in an ap class (like most ppl at my school) & bomb the ap test.

If you feel that the B and C that you got in WH are going to be typical of the grades that you'll get in your upcoming AP classes, then let that make the decision for you. Are you ok with those grades? If so, go for it and maybe study harder for the AP exams so you can do better. If you think you can do better in the next AP classes, then do it. But, if you really want to makes A's in your classes and don't feel like you could do it in an AP class, then go ahead and take regular or honors classes. Colleges want you to take the hardest classes you can handle, but I don't think they prefer C's in AP classes to As or Bs in honors classes. Hope this helps! :]

my recommendation: If you don't think you can can an A in the AP class, take the easier course and get an A. This could also leave you with more free time to study for the AP exam on your own if you decide to take it.
